About this listen

Lucy Savage is not having a good week. Her cheating husband, Bradley, lobbed the final insult when he stood her up in divorce court. A dye job gone wrong has left her hair green. And someone is trying to kill her. To top it off, sexy cop Zack Warren is certain that the very same man Lucy is trying to wash right out of her hair is the same Bradley he wants to arrest for embezzlement. When someone shoots at her and then her car blows up, Zack decides she needs 24-hour police protection.

Next thing Lucy knows, Zack has moved in to her big Victorian house, making them both sleepless...and not just from things that go bump in the night.

Other stories by this author are better

This book is fine, but when I was taking walks and listening on my phone I could get distracted by something I saw and my attention would wander. Not typical for me to have to back up so often because a book isn't keeping my attention focused... It's a cute enough story, but isn't quite as good as most by Jennifer Crusie. If you purchase this book, and it's your first Jennifer Crusie, please give her another chance.

First half was light and fun but the silliness wore on me by the end

At a romance conference I attended once an author’s panel talked about how frustrated they got with movie heroines who were just “too stupid to live”. By the end of this light, funny, screwball romance that’s unfortunately how I felt about Lucy. I listened to this book on Audible and gave this book three stars because I thoroughly enjoyed the first half, but by the last few chapters the dumb actions of the supposedly calm science teacher heroine, especially read in a very silly, girly high voice by the reader, became really irritating to me. The dogs were adorable throughout the book until the end when there were several crises and they seemed more like props in the book than like four real dogs. Says on Amazon that it was a reprint published in 2008 and am guessing it’s much older than that since they kept answering the house phone and I don’t think they used mobile phones in the book. I enjoyed the simplicity of not having smart phones in the book, though, it’s just the ridiculously silly plot (mild spoiler alert though I won’t give details: how could the police be so incompetent even when repeated major damage was being done to Lucy’s house? Why would 4 dogs react so calmly to that house damage? Am guessing the author doesn’t really own dogs.). Usually don’t write reviews but figured new Audible romance listeners may appreciate knowing not all reviewers give this book 4 or 5 stars. Takes so much time to listen to an audiobook that having a satisfying ending is even more important. Witty writing but just too shallow for me.

excellent

The reader sounded like she was in a hurry, and she needs to work on Male voices.

Enjoyable read

Good characters and the performance was very entertaining. Predictable ending but with a few twists and turns to make the trip worthwhile.

Fun, witty, light listen

Both author and narrator combine to make an entertaining listen. Ms. Cruise does a great job with her characters and making them enjoyable to get to know. Her characters always have an affinity for animals, what's not to love?

Which Bradley

I really like it. Started slow, so much I almost turned it off and stopped. But, I'm so oc I couldn't. It picked up then I really liked it. Had alot of Jennifers normal humor, with the ok ok I cant wait moments. Ready for the next listen.

Great story, loved the characters

I had read the printed version, and loved it. It's a great story, funny, sexy (explicit), exciting, a "who-dunnit." Unfortunately the audio version has the wrong narrator. She is too young, for ALL the characters. There were bad choices on accent, character, voice timbre. Why does the sister with money sound like she's from The Mob, why does one villain squeak? The story is good enough that I still listen to it in spite of the narrator being annoying.
