About this listen

Overwhelmed by the neighborly attentions of the cheerful and vivacious “girl next door,” a man burned by love finds his passions reigniting in #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts’s First Impressions.

Entrepreneur Vance Banning took a residence in rural Maryland to escape business pressures—and relationships with women pursuing his bank account. To the community, he’s a moody, out-of-work carpenter with a chip on his shoulder. To next door neighbor Shane Abbott, he’s just a man who needs a little kindness in his life. Vance’s suspicions of the stunning beauty’s intense interest in him start to fade when he realizes Shane’s compassion is honest and joyful—giving his heart permission to experience true love.

It's not as bad at 1.15x speed...

I messed around with the speed for a while until I could find one that made the characters sound normal enough but the reader tolerable. I'm honestly pretty shocked at how bad the performance was. Huge NR fan, but wow.

Couldn’t finish

I love to read Nora Robert’s and this story might have been okay but the reading was so poor that I could not even finish. The words were so annunciated it made it unbearably unreal.

First impressions

The storyline is different from the “standard” Nora Roberts novel, but I got used to it. At first I wasn’t sure I liked the performance, but became more accustomed to it. What I did like about the story was that it was different. In the end I liked the story and the delivery very much.

Sappy, mushy cheap romance novel details

I liked the story, a lot, but never ending details of their romance was boring and repetitive.

Standard Nora

This is a pretty standard plot. As usual with Nora the leads are likeable characters. The story holds no surprises but it is pleasant enough.

Narration

The narration was tough. Sometimes felt like I was listening to a story about young teens with young voices. Not much to the overall plot. Was a bit disappointes

Eh

Not one of the best of her stories. The characters could have been better developed.

So predictable

I’ve always been a fan of Nora Roberts, but this book was so predictable. The voices were obnoxious and made the characters seem like high schoolers rather than adults. Cheesy, predictable and a waste of time.
