About this listen

The People's Republic of Haven's sneak attack on the Kingdom of Manticore has failed. The Peeps are in disarray, their leaders fighting for power in bloody revolution, and the Royal Manticoran Navy stands victorious.

But Manticore has domestic problems of its own, and success can be more treacherous than defeat for Honor Harrington. Now, trapped at the core of a political crisis she never sought, betrayed by an old and vicious enemy she'd thought vanquished forever, she stands alone.

She must fight for justice on a battlefield she never trained for in a private war that offers just two choices: death... or a "victory" that can end only in dishonor and the loss of all she loves.

A Note from Author David Weber
There's been some confusion—not to say, um, energetic debate, readers and fans being readers and fans—about the correct pronunciation of "Manticoran." The truth, alas, is that a stitch was dropped. An error occurred. A mistake was made… and it wasn't Audible's fault. It was mine. Before Audible recorded the very first Honor Harrington book, narrator Allyson Johnson and I not only corresponded by e-mail but actually spoke to one another by phone. She wanted to make absolutely certain she had the correct pronunciations for names, places, star nations, etc., and I tried to make certain all of her questions were answered. And so they were. Unfortunately, at some point in the process, I replied to one of her e-mails by telling her that "Man-ti-core-ahn" was pronounced "Man-tik-er-ahn." Exactly how this happened is more than I can say at this point, except to blushingly disclose that the original e-mail remains intact, confirming to all the world that it was, indeed, my fault. I can ascribe it only to a temporary mental hiccup on my part and crave your forgiveness. If, however, you must blame someone for the mix-up, that someone should be me and not Audible, who have done everything they could to get it right.

The whole Honor series has been excellent, but I found this book to have the most depth and deep characterization. Can’t wait for the next book!

The best so far!

I love how this book deals with events that came before it. Too many books and TV shows don't do that. I'm looking forward to the next book but for now it's bedtime.

What does Allyson Johnson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Allyson Johnson does a fantastic job. She manages to do a great job with men's and women's voices and you can usually tell which character she is narrating by voice alone.

Great Narrator

Well, it was a good book. I liked it a lot. It actually managed at one point to elicit an actual emotional response, because I straight got pissed off pretty good. David did a great job, and as at this point anyone should be invested in the heroine, this edition of the story has just the right mix to flat out anger a person. Well written and well preformed.

Well this is not my favorite on our Harrington book, it still has some unforgettable scenes. The slow moving beginning is more than made up for by the outstanding ending that displays the best of Webber‘s writings.

Heavy politics throughout, but a killer ending!

Lady Honor, had finally found the perfect person who she could trust with her heart. But to have it taken away. Leaving her with the only option open, take the fight to the person who has caused her such pain. No matter what it is going to cost her and the navy. looking forward to listening to the next book.

Honor fight gets personal

I recently finished listening to Field of Dishonor, another excellent entry in the Honor Harrington series. The Honor Harrington series documents the career of Honor as an officer in the Star Navy of the space kingdom of Manticore. In this book, it continues with the events of the previous book in the series. In the previous novel her nemesis, Pavel Young, had shown cowardice in the face of the enemy. What should be a straightforward affair quickly becomes a political quagmire where she finds that justice is not always given and evil all too often cloaks itself in robes of righteousness.

Well written, but has a bit of buildup
