About this listen

Nestled between the Green Mountains of Vermont and the shores of a dark, sinuous lake is a town with terrible secrets. A secret that followed a young father home from Vietnam. A secret that haunts a housewife’s waking dreams. A secret that killed three children in a forest clearing. A secret lurking in the gray waters of the lake. They all have something to do with eight-year-old Tommy Wilford—quiet, shy, strange little Tommy Wilford. And a mysterious figure, a killer, the center of a cold case 20 years old and counting: an evil known to the authorities only as the Highwayman.

When FBI agent David Nolan arrives at the mental institution where the now-grown Tommy is held in the summer of 1999, he expects only to retread the same steps taken by countless investigators before him. What he finds instead is a story—multiple stories, weaving and intersecting through the year 1978, plotting Tommy’s path from happy child to ruined adult. And something else as well, something much darker and more sinister, something cruel and unknowable. Something that might still be out there....

"Unraveling Elmwood: A Gripping Tale of Secrets and Suspense"

“Elmwood” took me on an exhilarating journey through the shadowy secrets of a quaint town nestled amidst the Green Mountains of Vermont. From the moment I dove into its pages, I was ensnared by the suspenseful atmosphere that permeated every chapter. The author’s ability to weave together multiple storylines, each with its own layer of intrigue, kept me guessing and eagerly flipping through the pages, desperate to uncover the truth.

As I followed FBI agent David Nolan’s investigation into the enigmatic Highwayman and delved into the haunting past of young Tommy Wilford, I found myself completely immersed in the narrative. The characters felt vivid and real, their struggles and triumphs resonating with me on a deeply personal level.

With each twist and turn, “Elmwood” gripped me tighter, building towards a climactic finale that left me breathless. And yet, even as the final pages turned, I found myself hungry for more, eagerly anticipating the next installment in this thrilling series.

“Elmwood” isn’t just a book—it’s an experience. It’s a journey into the unknown, a descent into darkness, and a testament to the power of masterful storytelling. I can’t recommend it highly enough to anyone who loves to lose themselves in the pages of a truly gripping thriller.
