A sweet clean romance

Elana moves out west to become the towns new doctor. However, everyone is not happy to have a woman doctor especially one that is so independent and forward-thinking.
This book deals with making pre-judgments and assuming what people are like by what other people say. The townspeople aren’t the only ones that fall victim to this but Elana also makes assumptions about the town’s infamous bachelor John.

This book has lots of action and a sweet romance with a few light hearted moments!

My favorite of the series!

I have been watching John grow up over the course of the series, and am so glad we get his story. Elena is a probably my favorite of the female characters. She is a doctor, and this time period woman are not respected in the field. I love her spunk, her ambition and perseverance. She does not let anyone get her down and will do whatever needs to be done to keep the people in town healthy. John is smitten with her, but with his fear of commitment just can't admit even to himself the depth of his feelings. These two dance around their relationship until John runs from his feelings and goes to work in a mine. Will he be back? Will Elena be waiting or will she have moved on? In true Linda Weaver Clarke fashion, this story is full of love and community, good values and strong faith. It is a pleasure to listen to.

Carolyn Kashner continues the narration. She has such a wide variety of voices, and in this book used men, women and children. I loved the teenage girls as well as the miners. A well developed repertoire making the story entertaining to hear.

Elena

This story takes place in the 20's when women are trying to take a stand. Elena has had a rough go being an educated woman and is starting over. Being the new woman Dr. in town is not going to be easy though. John can't seem to get the new Dr. out of his mind. After they both have a few misunderstandings its time to really get to know the other. The story was nice and so was the narration.

Elena and John

Elena, Woman of Courage
(A Family Saga in Bear Lake, Idaho #5
by Linda Weaver Clarke

This is book five in the "(A Family Saga in Bear Lake, Idaho #5" It is now "The Roaring Twenty's."

It is a sweet clean western historical fiction romance.

John returns home after being away dry farming in the hills. When he meets the new town doctor. Elena is a strong courageous woman that works hard trying to keep the

town well. First John must learn the new language before he can entertain a relationship.

Adventure, a bit of drama, and romance that may or may not be reciprocated. Will John be convinced that he is ready to commit to the one woman that is right for him?

The humor was fantastic. Loved when Gilbert said, "What's this generation coming to?" Even back in the 1920's.

I love the true facts and quotes the author sprinkles throughout the book. I also like that she uses true family events in her stories.

My one question from this series is....did Henry ever find true love?

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed. Carolyn Kashner brings this story to life.

This series keeps getting better and it was good to begin with.

Good Story

Delightful story in the 1920 when woman were trying to be equal. In this Elena to be a doctor, wanting to make a difference. She moves to a small town in Idaho, the men still she her as weak, not the strong stubborn woman she is. Good story, and to see someone make a stand. All the author books are good.

Lovely Historical Story

This Audible version was so fun to read and listen to. It is a really sweet story and listening to it gave me a chance to close my eyes and envision myself back in this time period and being a woman that wanted to find her way in a then mostly male profession.

Synopsis:

The “Roaring Twenties” was a time of great change, when women raised their hemlines and bobbed their hair. The language of the era was also new and different. Watch a young love blossom in this sweet romance. When Elena Yeates settles into a small western town as the newest doctor, a few problems arise. The town is not ready for a female doctor, let alone one so strong and independent. She must struggle against the prejudice to establish her new practice. As she fights to prove herself, the town’s most eligible bachelor finds it a challenge to see if he can win her heart.

My thoughts:

This was the final book in the Bear Lake Family Saga. I have listened to the previous four and they were all very good books. This one was also. I enjoyed the characters from the previous books and how they merged into the continued story.

I enjoyed John as he finds he is not able to commit, yet finds he needs more than what he now has. I enjoyed Elena as she deals with social prejudice and struggles to overcome that. It's a time of change in the world as society begins to modernize with vehicles and new inventions. I am sorry to see the series ending. I have enjoyed each page as I read through each book. Great job, Linda Weaver Clarke.

I received an Audible version of this book from the Author. All thoughts are my own.

Good story

Another great story in this family saga. It was fun to follow John through this series from an inquisitive young lad to finally reaching the age where he gets his own wife. I've really enjoyed reading (or listening to) this story. The author writes such enjoyable tales of history and puts me right into the time period. It's not hard to visualize the characters as they move from one adventure to another. And now It appears the tale of the Roberts' family has come to an end. All the children are grown and married off.

I loved how the author showed Elena with such strength and determination, and how she smoothly guided John into realizing he way ready for marriage. I think Elena's character could be a good role model for young girls reading this story. I would like to thank the author for providing a free review copy of this book. It has been a most enjoyable read.

Wonderful Story! Love the Courage!

Wow, what a great story! I love a story about a bada$$ female handling herself in a man's world. Elena is a great character, love her! I'm in NO way a feminist, but it's nice to see a change from the usual hapless, blubbering females :)

Really loved the story, it engaged me from beginning to end, and I really enjoyed the story/writing and also the narration was awesome! I am definitely a fan of both author and narrator, and I think anyone who can read/listen would enjoy this story :)

Love and Values in the Roaring Twenties

Over the course of the Bear Lake series, we get glimpses of John in various stages of life. It's really nice that we get to see him all grown up.

I loved that Elena was such a strong character. <3 So many wonderful moments where she is standing up for herself through her actions. The woman her character is based off of seems pretty incredible too.

This sweet romance kept me captivated as well as grinning often. I enjoyed the use of the twenties lingo, it really added a sense of authenticity to the time period.

I loved John and Elena's love story. I was mentally cheering for them and their relationship especially towards the end! The author did such a good job developing their relationship and building intrigue between them.

You're not going to get out of one of these novels without a demonstration of good core values or one lesson or another, which I really like about this series. The way these values/lessons are presented is an exhibition of great writing, because the author slips them in quietly and then they sink in and give you something to take away even after the story is over.

One thing I wish would have been more clearly addressed was John's hesitation to commit. It was kind of touched on and there were some implied/suggestive reasons, but it seemed that an outright definitive reason was danced around.

Bravo to this well written and well narrated series.
