About this listen

Welcome to Daisy Thorne's Ooh La La hair salon in the charming village of Edgemead in Surrey, England, where you'll find the latest styles, the juiciest gossip - and the most tantalizing murder clues....

No one would ever accuse famous opera star Dame Serena Levante of lacking a flare for the dramatic. Unfortunately, it's curtains down on the dysfunctional diva when she's found dead at the bottom of a staircase in her elegant home. Solving an opera singer's murder may not be the typical hairdresser's aria of expertise. But Dame Serena was the mother of Daisy's best friend Floria, so Daisy must do-or-dye her best to get to the roots of the case.

When a priceless Modigliani painting in the house is reported missing, the mystery gets even more tangled. Even though the gruff but handsome Detective Inspector Paul McGuinness tells the stylist to stay out of his hair, Daisy is determined to make sure the killer faces a stern makeover - behind bars.

Definitely read this

I really liked the story and the characters and setting. It moved quickly and never dragged.

Slow Start

It took a good 12 chapters before it hooked me but I ended up enjoying the characters and story.

I liked it made me laugh at some points and enjoyed trying to figure who done it.

Positive vibe

Perhaps it was the narrator, but in spite of murder and an unlikeable victim, the book had a positive vibe. The trust of the inspector in our leading lady was terribly unlikely, but hopefully we will see more of these two.

Really good quaint story.

just a lot of different characters to try to keep straight. Good story and, as usual, great narration with Pearl Hewitt.

A nice story.

A nice escape for a few hours. Not too breathtaking and not too boring either, just right. Lovely little story and performance.

Cozy but with good plot & characters

This is a cozy mystery; lighter weight than a police procedural, no sex, no “language”, etc. However unlike many cozies, the plot is interesting, and the characters are not silly. Narrator was very good. Would recommend for a break between “heavier” mysteries, or just as pleasant cozy.

Too funny,

but not for the right reasons. I added it to my library as something light that I could listen to while working. It was light alright. So full of holes and non sequiturs that it became laughable. I got through it principally because I was too busy to look for something else. I’m only happy that I didn’t have to waste a credit on it.
