About this listen

Whilst organising a mock murder hunt for the village fete hosted by Sir George and Lady Stubbs, a feeling of dread settles on the famous crime novelist Adriane Oliver. Call it instinct, but it's a feeling she just can't explain...or get away from.

In desperation she summons her old friend, Hercule Poirot - and her instincts are soon proved correct when the "pretend" murder victim is discovered playing the scene for real, a rope wrapped tightly around her neck.

But it's the great detective who first discovers that in murder hunts, whether mock or real, everyone is playing a part.

Great story

Always so delighted when the narration is as great as the story. If you haven't heard any Agatha Chritie stories, you will love them.

Great story told by a great narrator

I enjoyed this Christie novel - it was fun and unexpected and kept me guessing. David Suchet is a wonderful narrator.

David Suchet is wonderful!

I have loved Agatha Christie’s stories since I was a little girl. I think David Suchet has played Hercule Perot so well. It was wonderful to hear him read this book and play out the characters.

Brilliant

David Suchet is remarkable and adroit. Each and every one of his characterizations are brilliant!

Mostly enjoyable

I have listened to every narrator of Agatha Christie books in order. David Suchet is very good except his Poirot voice is sometimes hard to understand due to the thick French accent. This can be frustrating, especially during the denouement, since you can't understand some of what is said.

Perfect narration of an imperfect mystery

I tend to rate books according to how much I enjoyed them, and so I’m giving this one just three stars. Two reasons. First, I never had the least notion who the murderer might be. I mean, I rarely solve Christie’s mysteries myself, but I frequently think that I have done so. Here, there were not enough clues to lead me to pick out anybody, even a wrong one. Second, while I have great respect for Poirot’s little grey cells, his solution just seemed to come out of thin air. I won’t spoil it by listing the questions I had after finishing the book, but there were quite a few that began, “But how did he know . . . ?”

The narration, as you may imagine, was impeccable.

not Agatha's strongest

not the best Christie. felt super promising for a while, but the ending seemed sudden and absurd. not shocking in a good way. not terrible, but definitely underwhelmed.

Suchet does an awesome job

The plot is convoluted but hearing Suchet voicing the different characters it is like watching it on TV.

Suchet excellent as usual, but too many characters to wade through.
