Carnegie legacy

Dale Carnegie continues to live on with the associates. This is a simple and solid (being free and included at the time of this writing doesn't hurt) audiobook on the most important part of any conversation... listening. not just "hearing."

Great Lessons

I loved the stories to give illustrations, the quizzes and the PDF guide that came with it. It is really more like a course.

The body language chapter was insightful and unexpected.

A course translated into a book

This book is clearly a lesson that a business or institution might hire to come and train their associates. There is plenty of good information in here. This isn't the best book I've read on communication and listening, but it's certainly not bad.

Good message and learnings

Overall the book is really good about shaping messages and communication and outlining sound conflict resolution practices. However, there are many annoying mistakes and errors in the pdf that comes with it - and also in the audio recording because they are reading the pdf. As an example - in the section "What's Your Conflict Style" - they mis-numbed the items - there are only 24 but numbered as 25 because they skipped over #23. Also in that section, when you are adding up your score to see your conflict style - they put the question #s next to the style. Fish and Ostrich are identical numbers (4,9,14,19) but Fish should really be (7,12,17,21,22). Also they have #23 listed under Dog, but there isn't a #23. Even the recording goes from #22 to #24 - skipping #23. The book is good - the pdf workshop document is just poorly done. Not much thought put into it, and certainly not proofread as it should have been. It does however put into perspective the type of listener you are - in the case of noticing the clerical errors, I was an Analyst type of listener.

Great Insight

Excellent insight on listening well and listening to understand. Help one address their own issues, as well as being able to communicate with others with listening and/or communicating effectively. This book helped me understand a major listening miss I have had all of my professional career. I listen as an analyst looking for areas for improvement, or areas that are in need of correction. I often jumped in and offered advice! I have missed a lot of important information and have unintentionally and unknowingly put of others :(

Mostly stories and quizzes

I love how to Win Friends and Influence People. So when I saw this book come out I hoped it would be similar to that book.

This one's more of a Workshop book that would be used as a guide for some sort of company training program. The vast majority of this book is just example stories and quizzes for you to take and score yourself.

There are few points made in the book that are pretty good, but nothing revolutionary. However, if you're looking for a template for some sort of business training on improving basic communication skills, this would be a good book.
