About this listen

With faith and testimony under increasing attack, parents can often be left wondering what they can do to help their children remain faithfully on the covenant path. Come as You Are by Samuel Norton, looks at some of the cultural aspects of membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and questions if those aspects of our lives are helping connect our youth and young adults to the Source of Redeeming Love. With the notion of creating “space,” listeners will understand that the opportunities to connect with Jesus are limitless, if we will give our youth and young adults the tools and the “space” to do so their way.

Listeners will understand that the “space” needed to connect with our Savior can be encroached upon by

• the language we use

• the lessons we teach

• our discomfort with not having the answers

• and our binary approach to life

Giving the rising generation the opportunity to connect with Jesus Christ isn’t about just making sure that they show up at church and attend activities every week. It’s about making sure they understand Christ stands willing to welcome them as they are. It’s about recognizing that He will perfect them in the process of time. It’s about helping them see that everyone can Come as They Are.

I loved this book and will be reading it again.

This is the perfect book to address how sometimes culture can get muddy our youth's connection to the Savior.

absolutely amazing

uplifting, validating, and loving. although the author explains some of the things that have created dissonance between some individuals and the church, he does so lovingly and is not against the church in any way. his thoughts were an exact reflection of how I have felt in my own church experience recently and it was comforting to hear them reflected back to me

Beautiful book

This book is phenomenal. One of the best church books I’ve read. It beautifully describes the type of church and faith community I hope to belong to and does a wonderful job pointing people to the Savior.

Highly recommend.

Insightful

Great for those who love and lead young people throughout the Church, but especially those who live outside Western U.S. experience.

A powerful vision of what church can be

Compelling and challenging, but also very much from inside the faith. He gave me so many ideas of how to love and support my brothers and sisters in Christ and how to give myself grace for where I am on my journey.

Such a needed perspective

I completely agree that connecting with Jesus in a personal way is what we all need in order to love each other better.

A true Christ-centered approach to living the gospel

I appreciate how the author can express how we can improve without being critical to church doctrine, policy, or leadership.

Love that doesn’t try to change you changes you

Loved this book. Learn to meet the youth where they are. Love as Christ does and watch that love heal and connect us all. Such a beautiful book about building Zion, listening with love, learning different perspectives, overcoming cultural obstacles, and replacing judgment with the pure love of Christ. An inspiring and hopeful read for everyone!
