"A tough, wise, knowing narrative voice, a great plot, a great setting, and even better characters - I loved this." (Lee Child, New York Times best-selling author)

In the tradition of Jeffery Deaver’s Lincoln Rhyme and David Baldacci’s Amos Decker, Robert Pobi's City of Windows introduces Lucas Page, a brilliant, reluctant investigator, matching wits with a skilled, invisible killer.

During the worst blizzard in memory, an FBI agent in a moving SUV in New York City is killed by a nearly impossible sniper shot. Unable to pinpoint where the shot came from, as the storm rapidly wipes out evidence, the agent-in-charge Brett Kehoe turns to the one man who might be able to help them - former FBI agent Lucas Page.

Page, a university professor and best-selling author, left the FBI years ago after a tragic event robbed him of a leg, an arm, an eye, and the willingness to continue. But he has an amazing ability to read a crime scene and figure out angles and trajectories in his head, and he might be the only one to be able to find the sniper’s nest. With a new wife and family, Lucas Page has no interest in helping the FBI - except for the fact that the victim was his former partner.

Agreeing to help for his partner’s sake, Page finds himself hunting a killer with an unknown agenda and amazing sniper skills in the worst of conditions. And his partner’s murder is only the first in a series of meticulously planned murders carried out with all-but-impossible sniper shots. The only thing connecting the deaths is that the victims are all with law enforcement - that is, until Page’s own family becomes a target.

To identify and hunt down this ruthless, seemingly unstoppable killer, Page must discover what hidden past connects the victims before he himself loses all that is dear to him.

I loved everything about this book and the narrator. Great characters, fascinating story, and a bad-ass female FBI agent!

Engrossing!

I didn’t really find Lukas a likable person. It helped to hear about his background which allowed some empathy for the character but he was a bit full of himself. Whitaker I found to be the most interesting character and she did call Lukas on his behavior which was called for.

Great story, mixed bag of characters

I have listened to this book at least three times and enjoyed each one.. Just a great one

One of the best books I have read/listened to

This book is quite good. I had returned a couple that were better rated due to sheer boredom. Glad to see this will be a series. As to the reviewer who had issues with the politics, that truly is a non-issue and ridiculous observation imho. Recommend.

Captivating New Series

Don't let those who rate negatively based on their political worldview keep you from listening to this book-- it's an interesting story based on a real incident (Ruby Ridge) and legitimately brings up some controversial issues. But along with that is a great plot, valid characters and a nice ending.

I did feel like the savant bionic man angle was a bit overdone. And some of the phrasing was not as polished as it could be. And Wyoming winters are not "humid". But still well worth the read/listen.

As for the narrator-- he can't do female characters, and doesn't differentiate a whole lot with the other characters. Still, he was able to fade out enough that the story took center stage.

Mostly Terrific

I was pleasantly surprised by this book and found it deeply entertaining. I like that science and thinking we’re more useful than ammo and brute force. I am also getting a kick out of the butt hurt trump supporters whining in the reviews about their 2nd amendment rights. The truth is hard for some people. Several times in this book I yelled out “PREACH!” I can’t wait to read more by this author.

Entertaining

I really liked the story idea, but author got a little long-winded politically. It was eerie how much the problems matched the last few years. I got a little confused as to which character was speaking due to little change in the narrator's voice. (But I did listen on the slow setting before going to sleep)
I'm reading the next book in the series.

Enjoyable story

This is a very interesting and entertaining book. The ending will amaze you. The narration is excellent. I will definitely be buying more audiobooks by this Robert Pobi, especially those narrated by Stephen Graybill.

Really good book

Too much political commentary, potentially biased. Disparaging portrayal of Christians as white supremacists. Not all rural people hate black and brown people
