Acerca de esta escucha

Was the biggest case of his career the worst mistake he ever made?

Ten years ago, DCI Jack Logan stopped the serial child-killer dubbed "Mister Whisper", earning himself a commendation, a drinking problem, and a broken marriage in the process.

Now, he spends his days working in Glasgow's Major Investigations Team, and his nights reliving the horrors of what he saw.

And what he did.

When another child disappears a hundred miles north in the Highlands, Jack is sent to lead the investigation and bring the boy home.

But as similarities between the two cases grow, could it be that Jack caught the wrong man all those years ago?

And, if so, is the real Mister Whisper about to claim his fourth victim?

A Litter of Bones is the explosive debut crime thriller novel from JD Kirk, an exciting new voice in Scottish crime fiction.

This one goes up on the top shelf.
Excellent plot, rich writing, narration perfection - held my attention without let up. Detective novels don't
get much better than this.

I really liked it. Sometimes I just found it hard to follow! Parts felt a bit wordy

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. The narration is superb and it's like listening to a movie. And what American doesn't love a great Scottish accent? Good story, great writing and sets the mood perfectly. Can't wait to 'read' more adventures.

A new detective series for me :-)

There was a great story line, and the narrator did a great job! I love crime thrillers, and this is definitely one of my new favorites. I loved it so much that I immediately downloaded all of the books in this series! I almost didn't give this book a shot because one of the reviews talked about graphic descriptions of animal and child abuse, but after listening to it I didn't think there was anything overly graphic. I thought the author did a nice job giving just enough detail to understand the situation without going overboard. Overall, I would definitely recommend!!

My New Favorite Author

lots of twists and turns some background on the main character and lots of positive aspects to the main character and how he treats others and his own human fabilities..

a good introduction to a nice series

When a child disappears and the method seems familiar DCI Logn is most the Highlands of Scotland to solve what could be a copycat crime. The Whisperer is now in a secure unit of a mental hospital and Logan is certain the caught the killer but details that were kept from the public are showing up, making everything murky. This is an able crime novel and at least the DCI isn't a lush but there are a few too many police cliches for my tastes although they are offset by the psychological complexity of the other team members and the villain. Still, I did want to know how the old case and the new case fitted together so the story works well.

The One Case

Harry Bosch is a solid cop leaving no page unturned in his investigations, Lucas Davenport is the slightly rogue cop tough guy who may bend a rule to get things done. Marry those personalities with Cheers-like character humor and you have a good idea of the what this series and DCI Logan bring to the page (or dialogue perhaps).

When the story began, Mr. King adopted such a harsh Irish accent it sounded near Gaelic to me and I groaned but suspected I'd become accustomed to it. Either I did or he lightened up. After two books I consider him among the elite of readers. Never questioned who is talking and the inflections are so spot on, one wonders if he rehearsed each paragraph first; what a gift.

Mr. Kirk is also a talent and I will likely do something I seldom (perhaps never) do and binge the series.

Have three cops (two detectives) in the family and I often hear how fake the CSI forensics are (nearly all of CSI forensics are fake except the DNA; i.e. there's no such thing as a "National Tire Tread Database".. except on CSI). To my knowledge, there's none of that here.

DCI Logan is tough, smart and likable but hides a soft heart. He also relegates unlike many series where 200-300 hours of police work is done by the hero each week, His team do most of the police work and they provide much of the intelligence necessary to solve these crimes.

The plots (so far) have been interesting with some twists. They do not have the complexity of perhaps a Holmes' Moriarty but they are believable plots by "real" people. Mr. Kirk's style is to leave you guessing who of the introduced character(s) is the culprit.

Few Author-Reader combinations work so well. Few, authors can write interesting stories with interesting people and keep a light tone on a series subject as well as Mr. Kirk. Few readers can add to a story's impact so well as Mr. King.

Their efforts have been rewarded by at least one new fan.... I'm sure they're ecstatic...

A marriage of Bosch, Davenport and Cheers

I really enjoyed this book. Good place, kept my interest, unsure how it would end. Not a lot of extraneous subplots.

Well Done

this was a really engaging and gripping mystery, but had one major flaw I cannot forgive. without spoiling too much, all I will say is one choice/action/decision for one of the characters was so supremely stupid and out of character that it ruined the whole book for me. it just made no sense.
