About this listen

A young empath, her misfit found family, and a city in flames.

Kiera Rovanoe is a young woman with a troubling gift - the ability to sense the emotions of those around her. Life in the bustling Nevarria, a large tourist city in the nation of Novalus, overwhelms her every day. Only her training at a mountain monastery brings her any peace - and a way to control her abilities. But now, the prospect of a quiet life in Nevarria is impossible.

Nevarrian citizens watch in horror, as the neighboring kingdom of Aestellus launches a brutal and swift attack on their unsuspecting city. Her home reduced to ashes, Kiera is forced to go into hiding, foraging in bombed-out buildings while struggling not to collapse under the tidal wave of despair and anguish she feels - coming both from her and her fellow Novalins.

As a civilian trapped behind enemy lines, she must do all she can to help her adoptive family survive - even if it means giving up the quiet life she’s always wanted. Can she and her fellow citizens repel the invading Aestellan forces? Or is their city doomed to ruin?

May the Goddess Bless the Republic.

Ignore the summary, Russian giantess kink

I'll admit, I couldn't fully pay attention to the book as something about the voice of the narrator just slides off me. This whole book is less a story and more Russian kemono girl giantesses crushing, eating, and stepping on creatures in detail, from furry foot musk from boots to them suffocating in chocolate slowly, that's all this book is.

For fans of Tolkien and anime

This is a great audio book for people who are fans of both JRR Tolkien and Japanese anime. Detailed, lyrical prose is used to paint a picture of the world of Cerolia, where multiple races with different magical abilities cultivate their powers and, tragically, go to war. Our young female protagonists will appeal to anyone who prefers the world of anime heroines over the all-male warrior cast of traditional fantasies.

Content warning for some: there is a small sentient species whose role in the magical ecosystem involves dying so that their souls can be recycled in and out of the magical source. This may be distressing for summer readers who are worried about stepping on insects or small animals, but may be interesting to other readers.
