About this listen

In this spellbinding first dramatized audiobook in #1 New York Times bestselling author Ilona Andrews’ urban fantasy Hidden Legacy series, private detective Nevada Baylor navigates her way through an alternate world where dynasties, built on inherited wealth and magic, guide the course of humanity.

Nevada Baylor runs a small-time detective agency in Houston, Texas, busting scammers, exposing cheaters, and dealing with petty criminals. She’s very good at her job–helped by a magical ability to sense when someone tells the truth or lies. But when she’s forced into accepting a case to find a radical pyrotechnic who can conjure heat and fire at will, Nevada knows she’s out of her league. To bring him to justice, she’ll have to join forces with someone who wields an even more dangerous power.

Connor “Mad” Rogan is a former combat mage, a telekinetic singularly responsible for mass destruction in war-torn countries, and a member of one of the most powerful magic families in the world. His nephew has been kidnapped by the fugitive pyromaniac, and Nevada is his best chance at finding them both. But unlike Nevada, Connor could care less about societal law and order, and has no qualms about extinguishing his family’s enemy.

Bound by their mission, Nevada and Connor clash over their tactics and moral beliefs, even as things undeniably heat up between them. But the man they’re chasing is involved in a darker conspiracy that threatens to destroy the city–and destabilize the balance of power the elite magical families use to influence every nation on Earth.

Adapted from the novel and produced with a full cast of actors, immersive sound effects and cinematic music!

Sorry - totally subjective, but this actor just didn’t fit my view of Rogan. Just found out that the authors have a sample of his voice on their website, I just missed it. I recommend checking that out and making your own choice. The Audible sample only features Nevada and Rogan’s evil cousin.

Oh well, I still have the standard audio which I’ve listened to a zillion times and Kate 10 comes out in Graphic Audio format next month!! Those are incredibly well done. This just didn’t work for me. So ch is life.

Rogan’s voice didn’t work for me

I was so looking forward to the graphic audio version of this book so I had it preordered. I loved the standard version because Renee Raudman did a great job with narration, but her voice for Rogan sounded a little too old for me. So I was looking forward to an actual male voice for Rogan from Graphic Audio. This production is okay, both main narrators have good voices, but the main female narrator is trying way too hard, she talks like she's singing or in a high school drama club, and it gets cringy at times. The male narrator on the other hand doesn't get Rogan's emotion right. Everyone sounds amateur. Overall it felt like the production team didn't treat it as seriously as the Kate Daniels series. I rarely regret buying an audiobook due to poor narration, because usually the narrators adds to the story, but this is the case where the audiobook actually damages the story...

Fair Production, Poor Narration

I have re-read this book several times. When it came out from Graphic Audio, I was 'heck yeah! I am in'.
Narration - Its a movie in your mind. I love Graphic Audio. I thought the lead voices fit what I had in minds for them
Story - I love this series,

Love this series and Author(s)

I was a bit disappointed with this narration, I felt it lacking in sounds, this word has a lot of potential for this kind of narration to go a bit wild, they didn't deliver. The all Prime voice in Neva wasn't as "punchY" as I expected. Is inevitable to compare previous narrations and narrators and their interpretations. Also MR sounded way to young, great voice just the wrong one imo. I did liked the lady that played Neva. Really fit her. Cornelius voice actor would have been great as a MR now that I think about it...hmm.

Anyway, as always, great story. Ilona Andrews make everything engaging and memorable.

As always, great story...

The narrator is so overly dramatic and over-the-top. I literally said "calm down girl" at one point. I always imagined Nevada to be calm and collected under pressure, not a complete spaz. Really disappointing. Returned to Audible for credit refund.

so disappointed with narration

I made the mistake of reading the reviews first and thought that maybe it wouldn’t be all that good because there were some negative voice reviews. That said I actually really enjoyed it once I got into it. I thought the voices did a great job. I like how they’re adding music and I like how nothing overpowers the thing that matters most - the voices. That hasn’t always been true of graphic audio Productions in the early days, but now they’ve totally got it down. I also love little hidden snippets of voices that I enjoyed and recognized from other places. Great story told by some great readers. I enjoyed it.

Balance was good

This is a great series, but book 1 suffers a bit by the necessity of focusing on Nevada and Rogan.
My favorite books in this series give the entire Baylor family, plus extended family like Cornelius and Matilda, a lot more screen time. The later books also get into House warfare, which really kicks things up.

This book failed to sell the chemistry between Nevada and Connor. Partly, it’s the writing, which doesn’t humanize Connor enough, nor give him many redeeming qualities; he’s just another insufferable, all powerful, mega-rich beefcake. Partly, it’s the narration. As much as I appreciate the graphic audio format chopping three and a half hours compared to the regular audio format, neither Nevada nor Connor’s voices were particularly unique or sexy.

I admit, however, that it’s hard to reset my brain to new narrators … so maybe it’s not them; it’s me.
I still highly recommend this book because it kicks off a great series with a unique magic system and features an entire family of fascinating characters with even more interesting magical abilities.
If you’re tired of series with the ubiquitous single white MC, or with the usual vampires and shifters,
then this is the urban fantasy series for you.

Chemistry wasn’t there

I read some of the negative reviews and was a little disappointed, but then I listened. Like the other Graphic Audio productions I have listened to I thought this was excellent!

Excellent Listen!

the story was fine... the main character's the narration was terrible.
I'd recommend the non-dramatized version.

really bad narration

I love this series so much. Really, I love anything Ilona Andrews writes but this one has always been my favorite. The voice actors were so well chosen for the characters. Nevadas voice was a little too rushed and didn’t portray the calm confidence that the character seemed to possess. Having said that, I found her voice to fit the character overall. Rogans voice was so smooth and hot, but he was a little too arrogant. The character is confident and at times arrogant but this portrayal made him seem like a jerk most of the time. Grandma Frida was perfect!!

So so good!
