Publisher's summary

The demon Lucrecia accompanies her mistress to a remote castle to evaluate a powerful duke. He is suspected of dark magic and may be plotting to steal his brother’s throne. Lucy is shocked to discover that the duke has hired her erstwhile lover, the sorcerer Jacob, to vouch for his purity. Both Lucy and Jacob have agendas of their own at the duke's castle. They may need to put past quarrels aside if they want to leave alive.

Burn is a prequel novella for The Incubus series. You can enjoy this story even if you haven’t listened to the novels. This series has plenty of heart and lots of steam. Adults only!

Captivating

Just finished a second listen. After getting through the lust of the story in the first listen, was able to admire the character and plot development in the second. I’m going to look for this in hardcover.

I found myself engaging with the characters and forming attachment as their strengths and vulnerability’s were revealed. I’m not going into specific plot details.

My test of a good book is whether it leaves me thinking about the ideals behind what is driving the story.

Well done.

The narrator is perfect for the story.

Great Story

Another fantastic audiobook in the Incubus series! This occurs before the start of the series but ties perfectly. While not entirely set for young adults there is only limited sex & that's not explicit. This would be a great place to start thre series. The narration by Lauren Harris is excellent as always & is a pleasure to listen to. If you're looking for a short listen to a great series this is a must!

A delightful insight into the past

What a wonderful story! Lucy and Jacob have so much history, and a chemistry that crackles like dragon fire. And, as always, Lauren Harris did a truly phenomenal job narrating this book and giving the characters voices. I particularly liked the piano at the start and close; it gave a suitable air of tension that carries throughout.

Dragon vs. Nightmare

In this novella, the world of Lee's Incubus series runs up against the nameless horrors of the Cthulhu Mythos. It's a wonderful, unexpected, you-got-chocolate-in-my-peanut-butter sort of moment.

Lucy is an engaging protagonist. I enjoyed her in the Incubus books, and she's arguably even more fun here, where she's at the height of her power and influence (even though she is far from free). Her tempestuous relationship with the sorcerer Jacob sizzles whenever they are together, but her feelings and allegiances are complex and tangled. It's easy to see why she becomes a target of the dark power that lies behind the duke.

Lauren Harris deserves special kudos as the narrator. She voices all of the characters wonderfully, and she brings an added sensuality to the romantic moments between Lucy and Jacob.

Standard Met

I have high expectations of Abigail Hilton's stories, and she has met them once again. This adult story set in the Incubus world, long before the events of Incubus Caged, follows one incident in the lives of characters introduced in Incubus Bonded. Despite their personal conflicts, Lucy and Jacob investigate when a man acquires the ability to use magic and starts building a temple to a new god. Listen to the excellent narration, and enjoy a little fantasy and romance!
