About this listen

The murder of a small-time drug dealer snowballs into the most complex case ever faced by Joe Gunther and his VBI team.

It is said a bright and clear bomber’s moon is the best asset to finding one’s target. But beware what you wish for: what you can see at night can also see you, often with dire consequences.

Two young women form the heart of this tale. One is an investigative reporter, the other a private investigator. Uneasy allies from completely different walks of life, they work together - around and sometimes against Joe Gunther and his VBI cops - in an attempt to connect the murders of a small-town drug dealer; a smart, engaging, fatally flawed thief; and the tangled, political, increasingly dark goings on at a prestigious prep school.

While Gunther and the VBI set about solving the two murders, Sally Kravitz and Rachel Reiling combine their talents and resources to go where the police cannot, from working undercover at Thorndike Academy, to having clandestine meetings with criminals for their insider’s knowledge of Vermont’s unexpectedly illicit underbelly.

But there is a third element at work. A malevolent force, the common link in all this death and chaos, is hard at work sowing mayhem to protect its ancient, vicious, very dark roots.

I loved getting to see the dynamic of Rachel and Sally working together and becoming friends. And all the “troopers” on Joe’s team delivered as they usually do. Glad Willie is becoming more secure.

Great story and wonderful narration! AS ALWAYS!

I believe the combo younger female characters that use some wisdom i. their sleuthing add to this edition. interesting story line with satisfying conclusion.

What another great read by Archer Mayor!! Racheal and Sally did a wonderful job in this book. I honestly think if it weren’t for the 2 girls it would have been difficult for Joe and the team to solve this one. Between witnesses being killed and others being paid off it was making for a hard case to solve, all over a family secret.
I highly recommend this book and can’t wait until April 2021 for the newest Joe Gunther book to come out.

Fantastic

Keep this partnership coming! They go so well together! Willie, Sam, Spinney, and Joe are always recognizable!

Love Tom and Archer

Good characters and story line, but I wish Mayor would write more interesting endings! Most of his books are lacking in this department, but this is one of the more egregious examples. It’s as if the last chapter was left out! I suppose it’s a stylistic choice that some may not mind, but to me it cheapens what was otherwise a solidly enjoyable book.

Mostly good, but with an annoyingly truncated ending

This book is not as good as others have been it really didn't lack an excitement and imagination and not sure where it stands in line with the others but I would have think that this is one of the beginning books written by this author cuz the other ones I've heard are so much better than this one

so so book
