Publisher's summary

When a nativity display on public property is torched by a former US Senator, the media spotlight falls on the forgotten small town of Leonard, Texas, and the new pastor of its only church—Adam Wells. Emboldened by the prospect of leading his tiny congregation in a nationally-televised, first amendment debate that he considers to be a “fight for the heart and soul of America,” Pastor Wells determines not to let anything or anyone, including his wife and his rebellious sixteen-year old daughter, stand in his way. But when an old high school friend unexpectedly shows up in their small town and a past secret is revealed, Pastor Wells’ constitutional crusade collides with an even greater fight—the fight for the heart and soul of his marriage, his daughter, and, even his own life. In this modern-day story of betrayal, forgiveness, and finally redemption, Adam Wells discovers, for the first time, the meaning of the story he’s been preaching all his life… and his desperate daughter understands what really is beyond the farthest star.

Award-winning authors, Bodie and Brock Thoene, have written an emotional and authentic drama based on a screenplay by Andrew Librizzi and now a major motion picture.

Beyond The Farthest Star

Would you consider the audio edition of Beyond the Farthest Star to be better than the print version?

N/a

What was one of the most memorable moments of Beyond the Farthest Star?

Lunchroom scene when Steven invites Ann to join him and his friends at his table. I love his steadfastness and good intentions could not be put off my Ann's gruffness.

Which scene was your favorite?

When Steven took Ann to meet his horse Midnight; the explanation for how Midnight got her horrendous scars and how his mother loved the horse to healing; all the while the readers are paralleling Midnight's woundedness with Ann's.

Who was the most memorable character of Beyond the Farthest Star and why?

Steven. Orphaned and raised by loving grandparents who taught him how to look beyond appearances and love unconditionally his friends and now Ann.

Enjoyable

What made the experience of listening to Beyond the Farthest Star the most enjoyable?

No foul language, no sexual situations. Just a nice, comfortable story - good plot.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Stephen. He hung in there with Ann, even though she was a difficult person.

What does Bodie Thoene bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Because Bodie is one of the authors, she obviously knows what needs to be said and how. She is not, however, a polished narrator, but acceptable, nonetheless.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

no

Any additional comments?

I am a long-time fan of the Thoenes (pronounced Tay-Nee), having read their Zion Chronicles when they were first published and I was a new Christian. Their historic novels are excellent and an exciting read. I wish Audible would carry some of those!! I only gave this book 4 stars because, IMO, it was not up to par. Still, a nice story. One that I would recommend for Christian teens, because the story centers around the 16- yr old daughter, Ann, and her relationship with her parents as well as her peers. The sub-plot has to do with the husband-wife relationship and also the pastor-husband's ambitions to be another Billy Graham.
