About this listen

A woman, wounded. A Bear Shifter, hiding from his past. In a world shattering around them, will their love be able to hold them together?

Dean Ward knew the truth. Everyone else in society always took everything for granted: their technology, their government, and their fellow man. As a Bear Shifter, he knew how fast humans could turn on you, how fast they could blame you. So he left society and decided to prepare for the end he knew was coming. He had everything he needed, but when the nuclear armageddon begins, what good does the truth do you?

Gina Flynnt's world ended, not with a bang but with a low rumble. Fleeing from an empty hospital built to withstand a nuclear blast, she saw thousands of people desperate to escape their doom. Barely escaping with her life, she watches as her car careens off a mountain road before losing consciousness. Little did she know, her ordeal was only just beginning.

This Fated Mates Bear Shifter romance novel is steamy, packed with action and won't let you go!

Good post apocalyptic tale

i had forgotten that i had read this book as part of some were-bear collection at some point, so i didn't have it marked in my goodreads as specifically read.

it had been a while so though i had a vague idea- i wasn't totally sure of all the plot points and didn't remember specifically disliking it so i decided to give it a listen since it was part of the romance package.

it is a good novella. since it is a shorter story there isn't much character development but it still was good. there is sex, but only at the very end, it is much more story than sex, which i prefer.

it is set in post apocalyptic america but there are no zombies or anything like that. the fact that the H is a werebear is almost not necessary, but still makes the story interesting.

i would recommend this book to adults, since there is described sex in it.

Apocalyptic Shifter Romance

This story combines elements of an apocalyptic thriller and a shifter romance, a unique combination. I won't divulge the nature of the disaster, other than to say that it was one that I hadn't anticipated. Although many of the scenarios were somewhat unbelievable, I still enjoyed the suspense and romance. Being an animal lover, I loved Gina's fearless little dog. The ending was very satisfying. The narrator did a very good job with the character voices and conveying the emotions of the story. I enjoyed Bear Fallout and would recommend it.

Great listen!

I loved this, it combines two of my favorite genres. Great story, complex characters, and plenty of action. It starts off with a bang (literally), and doesn’t stop until the end. Great narrator too! just couldn't get into it

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I was intrigued by the premise, if pessimistic on the romance part. Basically, it is a post nuclear apocalypse story in a world where shapeshifters exist. I thought this sounded really interesting. Then, it ended up focusing on the romance a lot more than the apocalypse and the shifter seemed almost like an afterthought. The narration was good, but it really never succeeded in capturing my interest.

Okay story

BOOK REVIEW.....
I found the story lacking any real depth to it. Normally I love Ms. Fanning's books but this one was very disjointed. I don't believe this type of story is the authors forte.

NARRATOR REVIEW......
The narrator was okay with over all reading and with the female characters. However, her attempt at giving voice to Dean falls flat.

Creative but doesn’t deliver credibility

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Ah shucks. I was disappointed by the end. Pretty good story idea but it’s too complex for a short book. To give credit where it’s due, my heart was actually racing the first chapter. I was in a zombie world saying “Do NOT go in there... No... Stupid! Stop...” but when no zombies jumped out, all the excitement drained away. Everything Gina thought after that was just dumb. And the fire scene was so far from realistic. Everything in flames, and her perky dog runs out fine with his bone? And the streets are drivable? Even the lawns are burning. And there are looters and people acting crazy. And why is she being shot at?

And shifter Dean makes a rookie mistake even I knew was dangerous. He’s been holed up alone for years, makes his own soap, has food for years... but he causes, believe it or not, another fire. I think the two of them seriously belong to each other, just maybe shouldn’t procreate. Okay, that was harsh. LOL

Annabelle Warren had good cadence and pronunciation, but her voice sounds so innocent. I also prefer male voices for Shifter books.

Sigh. Hands in my pockets.

Bear Romance set in end times

Keep in mind this is a romance between a female human and a bear shifter, so don’t expect any true post-apocalyptic accuracy.
I have to say that Gina was one of my least favorite female leads in Becca’s stories. In too many parts, Gina alternates between being TSTL, then yelling at and browbeating Dean. Becca’s MC Bear Mates series is still my favorite so far.
Warren’s voice lent itself well to the character of a young adult woman, not girl.

Good Book

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, i definitely would recommend this audiobook to a friend. I found it interesting and believable. Despite Dean being a shifter i mean. I think that the dregs of society would come out during the apocalypse and it would be back to the survival of the fittest.

What other book might you compare Bear Fallout to and why?

I haven't read a book like bear fallout before. But i will definitely start reading more like it.

Have you listened to any of Annabelle Warren’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I haven't listened to Annabel Warren's performance before. I did like it, i only had a problem with how she portrayed Dean's voice. It sounded very mono toned and flat.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I definitely laughed through certain parts of the book because of Gina's feisty character. But didn't cry or anything.

Any additional comments?

I did not like how there was music separating the chapters. It got to be annoying.

Needs a better narrator

I wish I'd read the ebook, the narrator made this hard to listen to. The character voices were OK (not good, just OK), but the delivery was bad. It was so overly dramatized that it was cringe-worthy, at the slightest sign that things weren't clam the delivery went to 'OMG the world is ending' dramatic, it was exhausting to listen to.

The story itself was enjoyable, the dynamic between Dean and Gina was interesting and as things developed the chemistry between them was strong. Dean is just the kind of person you'd want around if the world was going to sh*t.

I was a bit disappointed that we never find out why the apocalypse happened, but the rest of the story was great.
