About this listen

At Bertram’s Hotel the intrepid Miss Marple, on holiday in London, must solve a deadly mystery at the end of a chain of very violent events.

An old-fashioned London hotel is not quite as reputable as it makes out to be.…

When Miss Marple comes up from the country for a holiday in London, she finds what she’s looking for at Bertram’s Hotel: traditional decor, impeccable service, and an unmistakable atmosphere of danger behind the highly-polished veneer.

Yet, not even Miss Marple can foresee the violent chain of events set in motion when an eccentric guest makes his way to the airport on the wrong day.…

Period charm, with a twist

Mrs. Christie pulls the rug out from under the reader once again but with plenty of warning as to what's up in the story. The reader is lead to believe the story is about a specific set of characters, but finds out that there's more to it than that.

I've read At Bertram's Hotel many times but I still like listening to it to see not only whodunnit, but how She dunnit.

Really takes one back to better days.

Loved all the rich detail and character and plot development. Had seen this on screen and as usual the book is much better. The performance es superb.

Never tire of Agatha Christie!

Would you listen to At Bertram's Hotel again? Why?

ABSOLUTELY! I love reading/llistening to Agatha Christie's books multiple times. I always pick up a previously missed clue or sniglet of information.

What was one of the most memorable moments of At Bertram's Hotel?

I love them all

Any additional comments?

No one holds a candle to Agatha Christie.

Atmospheric + excellent narration

I would love to hear Stephanie Cole narrate all the Miss Marple mysteries. Her tempo and manner make you feel you are going through Miss Marple's day right at her side, and it's a wonderful feeling (despite all the sinister goings-on).

This was not my favorite Miss Marple mystery (mainly towards the end) - but I didn't mind because I loved hearing Stephanie Cole's narration.

Classic Whodunnit

Love the movies and all their variations from the book. But I feel the book deserves a 3 part miniseries to do it justice. The narrator was excellent. I got this book at a discount on a black Friday sale and I thought there would be a catch. Like background noise, or bad narration. But I was pleasantly surprised.

Sweet Ol' Ms Marple Does it Again

Miss Marple takes a vacay to the old-fashioned Bertram's Hotel. Her keen sense of detail and her skill at eavesdropping helps her to assist the police in solving a crime ring. She just has to have tea and shop and still can solve a crime. I always enjoy a good Agatha Christie cozy mystery. Hope you enjoy it too.

One of my favorites

What made the experience of listening to At Bertram's Hotel the most enjoyable?

This is just one of my favorite Agatha Christie's. It has everything that makes her books so enjoyable, the wonderful eccentric British characters, the astute character observations, a well plotted story. There's a reason why her books have stood the test of time. In this case, Stephanie Cole does a marvelous job of bringing Miss Marple to life.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I just adore Miss Marple. Something about this little old lady no one pays attention to, but she's so astute, a much better observer than all the "smarter" people around her.

Have you listened to any of Stephanie Cole’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I've enjoyed Stephanie Cole's performances before, but this was the first time I've listened to her read, and it was wonderful. She brought all the characters to life, but more importantly it was a well-paced reading.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When the various police authorities have gathered with Miss Marple in the hotel and she keeps pulling rabbits out of the hat, surprising them with all the things she's noticed and discovered about the various guests and hotel employees.
