About this listen

Chaos is afoot!

What was meant to be a simple hunt turned into a life-changing adventure! Caldor is whisked into a world of magic, adventure, and politics. Can he survive long enough to reach his goals?

In a magical world known as "The Wyrd" only those who have the Spark can be adventurers, diving into magical dungeons, getting epic loot, and leveling up by collecting essence. Caldor is several years past the age when most people find out they are sparked, but that doesn’t stop him from wishing.

Caldor’s father was an adventurer, and he wants nothing more than to be like him, an Arcane Knight. When his hunt goes sideways and he finds that he can harness the powers of being a Sparked, he is filled with excitement and ready to battle his way to the top!

Magic, adventure, and a dose of unwanted politics await him; will he survive long enough to become an Arcane Knight? Listen and find out.

This is a LitRPG book with a "system"—levels, stats, and cool abilities. No harem and loads of fun violence.

Enjoyable

I really enjoyed this story and found it a refreshing addition to the genre. It follows a similar vein as a favorite of mine. The narrator grows into the story and does a wonderful job at bringing it to life. Worth a listen for sure.

Loved this story!

Really love the start from the beginning and progress from weak to strong type of stories and this one pokes my fun button just right. Really enjoyed this story and it was very well narrated! Well done!

a great story

this book has a really cool premise.
it's an underdog tale with lots of dungeon diving and adventuring in the mix.
I particularly enjoy the magic system and the end left the possibility to expand on the magic system open in next books

takes 30 chapters to start leveling up!

half the book in then it starts before that enjoy a slice of life like series, with minor intrigue.

Caldor is following his father

I found that it was interesting that it is a world of have and have not. Some are gifted while others don't. I loved the message from Caldor's father, it made me cry a little it was a truly emotional scene. Now on to the next one.

Another great book by Timothy McGowen. You will not be disappointed. Also the dual narration really brings the story to life. I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is going to be an epic series, I like the magic system and the intrigue. There is a good balance of action and story. Great book and very good performance by the narrators.

it's a good start for a new series

a great start for a new series. MC isn't OP and has lots of friends to draw on to help him out on his big quest. it does take a bit to get his class, but I don't see how that's a negative. people just don't have patience now.

it's worth a credit and a listen for sure, the dual narration that RGP does is always top notch and helps keep the roles straight for me.

Great Book

This book is the beginning of a series so I liked how the author gave a good back story for the main character. The story in whole was really good and set the basis for the next book.

It’s Definitely Worth the Credit

Let’s be real here, you’re trying to decide if a book is worth using your limited audible credits on, we all are. This book definitely falls into the “worth it” category.

It’s slice of life and a solid LitRPG. Not too much time taken for stat sheets, no harem, solid writing, and interesting characters.

The narration, some unusual pronunciations can yank you out of immersion but recovery isn’t hard. Don’t get me wrong, I love a British accent there were just a few pronunciations that I’d never encountered before that threw me off.

On a humorous note, I found myself using an accent while teaching. My students got a kick out of the whole thing.
