About this listen

Laugh-out-loud women's fiction from the NUMBER ONE bestselling author of The Old Ducks' Club!

'I've loved all of Maddie Please's books but this is my favourite so far - superb characters and a warm, wonderful story. Bravo!' Judy Leigh

Clover Harrington might be sixty-one, but she’s still bossing it in the corporate world and can still run rings around her younger colleagues. And then she is made redundant….

Devastated and now suddenly the wrong side of sixty Clover doesn’t know what to do with her life or her corporate wardrobe! What does she wear if not red lippy and a power suit?! Rather than offer her any support, her partner, Jack announces he's off on a golfing weekend, leaving Clover completely adrift.

Desperate to get away from it all, Clover decides to visit her cousin Zoe at her small taverna in the gorgeous Italian Lakes. There she can rest and recuperate and plan the next stage of her life.

Until Clover’s eighty-year-old mother, Eleanor decides to turn up for the holiday too! Instead of gentle ambles around the lake, Eleanor seems more interested in late night poker and swigging Prosecco and Clover can’t quite believe her mum is having more fun than she is. But as the saying goes - if you can’t beat em, join em!

But is Clover brave enough to live La Dolce Vita?

An uplifting and hilarious story about living life to the full and always, always having fun! Perfect for fans of Judy Leigh and Dee Macdonald

As with all of Maddie Pease’s books, the stories take the reader/listener to new and exciting places with interesting people to be met along the way. The narrator does a great job of bringing a different people from different cultures to life.

A well written and well performed fun read

Totally enjoy Maddie Pease books and the lovely narrator! They make me laugh, and smile, and think. Such a breath of fresh air! This one was especially meaningful since I am about to retire.

How fun and emotionally real !!

It’s a very pleasant story, without all the nonsense misunderstandings and people failing to communicate and such that tends to mark this genre. Yes, the story is a tad predictable, but I still found myself anxious for the next time I could spend some of my day with these characters in Italy.

The narrator is phenomenal! You forget you are hearing just one person with all of these brilliant character voices.

Very pleasant

I totally enjoy reading the adventures of women of maturity and the reality of every day life on embracing getting older and just living in this 21st-century! I find it very inspiring. I’ve recommended your books, to many of my friends and clients that they’ve fabulous, and realistic with lots of fun along the journey! The gorgeous countries, landscapes that you take us to also. Italy is next on my list.
Thank-you

To me, this book was difficult to listen to. The characters were flat, the story had no elements of surprise, and it was very predictable. Also, I’m sorry to say I didn’t care for the narrator(s), either, especially the mother. Her voice was very harsh. I’m soon to turn 61 so hoped this would be a book I could relate to. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. If you enjoy a slow story with no action and characters that don’t move you, then you may enjoy this book.
