'A glorious romp that readers will adore. Maddie's warmth and humour will put a smile on your face' Judy Leigh
Divorced and on a deadline, bestselling novelist Bea Pinkerton has a serious case of writer's block. With her agent breathing down her neck, Bea will do ANYTHING to avoid writing another word.
So an invite to a reunion with her old school friends at a beautiful chateau in France, is Bea’s perfect chance to escape. Surely here, relaxing with old friends and drinking cold fizz, Bea will find inspiration?
But as soon as Bea arrives, she realises this is not going to be the peaceful getaway she anticipated. Her old school friends Gin and Audrie are in various states of marital distress and to top it off a camera crew has arrived to film the goings on at Chateau De St Cyr. Far from being calm, the trip is total chaos!
Thank goodness for Bea's new French neighbour Laurent Sinclair - handsome, charming and perhaps exactly the romantic muse she needs to get her mojo back.
But is Bea brave enough to take a second chance at love at her age?
Perhaps with a little help from her friends...
Escape to the Chateau for another laugh-out-loud feel-good adventure with the #1 bestselling author of The Old Ducks' Club!

Douglas Petersen may be mild-mannered, but behind his reserve lies a sense of humor that seduces beautiful Connie into a second date...and eventually into marriage. Now, almost three decades later, they live more or less happily in the London suburbs with their moody seventeen year-old son, Albie. Then Connie tells him she thinks she wants a divorce. The timing couldn’t be worse. Connie has planned a month-long tour of European capitals, a chance to experience the world’s greatest works of art as a family, and she can’t bring herself to cancel. And maybe going ahead is for the best anyway? Douglas is privately convinced that this landmark trip will rekindle the romance in the marriage, and might even help him to bond with Albie. Narrated from Douglas’s endearingly honest, slyly witty, and at times achingly optimistic point of view, Us is the story of a man trying to rescue his relationship with the woman he loves, and learning how to get closer to a son who’s always felt like a stranger.

In the early hours of a summer morning, a young woman steps into the path of an oncoming bus. A tragic accident? Or suicide? At the center of this puzzle is Adrian Wolfe, a successful architect and grief-stricken widower, who, a year after his third wife's death, begins to investigate the cause. As Adrian looks back on their brief but seemingly happy marriage, disturbing secrets begin to surface. Story
The divorces from his two previous wives had been amicable, or so it seemed; his children, all five of them, were resilient as ever, or so he thought.

Very enjoyable
I this is the third Maddie Please book I’ve read. I enjoyed the change of the main character to an author and the little hints toward other stories. I found the inner monologues extremely amusing. It might be easier to catch on if you were reading it, but they accent the character’s humor.

Another wonderful book
What’s not to love, another wonderful book. The story, the way is read, description, location, characters with similarity of 60+ as well as ideal for younger reader. Loved it! Thanks.

I’m torn…
I’m a bit on the fence with this one. I enjoyed the story very much. This author can always make me laugh and I do love her characters. The trouble happens with the main character’s inner monologues. They drag on and often stall the story. My advice - be patient. She’ll get back to the action eventually and it will be enjoyable again!

Repetitive and shallow
Ended up returning this one after a few chapters in because I couldn't take it anymore. The characters seemed silly and shallow, and the main character seemed to have the same conversations with herself over and over. This was all punctuated with a few really good descriptions and funny lines, but that wasn't enough to carry it. The narrator did a nice job of bouncing between different accents. Not sure whether this one would pass the Bechdel test, but maybe it gets better for anyone who sticks it out.
