Publisher's summary

Parker Ferro is fine.

Sure, he’s still recovering from his last case and his sister has started keeping secrets, but that’s just another day in the life of the Windrose of San Amaro.

Then the local werewolf alpha calls in a favor when he's turned on by his own pack, and the last thing Parker wants to do is get mired in the city's pack politics. Throw in the recent murder of a local cult leader with disturbing connections to the hidden fae in San Amaro, a long lost relative showing up to reconnect, and a group of brownies taking up residence in his car, and Parker cannot catch a break.

Hopefully he can solve this case and figure out some family secrets before everything blows up in his face, taking the city along with it.

A Shattered Silver Crown is a 120k MM urban fantasy with a HFN ending and an ongoing storyline. It cannot be enjoyed as a stand-alone.

Best of the series so far!

I have thoroughly enjoyed this series and this most recent installment is even better than I expected! The world building is top-notch and continues to expand, the characterizations are fantastic and I love how Parker continues to build his family of choice. the mysteries are good and always have a twist in them. Start at the beginning and read them all!

Narrator makes it great

I enjoy Kai Butler’s books but I didn’t feel drawn into the story when I read the first of this series. Switching to the audio made all the difference. Greg Tremblay does a phenomenal job bringing the characters and story to life.

Kudos to both the author and the narrator

These stories have continued to get better over time. I actually think this is probably the best one. I definitely want to give props to the narrator. He has done a stellar job. He has wonderful timing. He knows when to pause at the right moment for dramatic effect. I would definitely recommend this series.

Great story

Loved the story and the addition of the Brownies to the cast.
I’m a little frustrated with the cliffhanger at the end, but as book 5 awaits in my library, I will get over it quickly.

One of my favorite fantasy series with one of my favorite narrators!

Narrator: Knock on wood, but I will never not love one of Greg’s narrations. He really is the perfect Parker and I love the emotion he puts into his voice. Highly recommend the audio!

Story: Note: This is an ongoing fantasy series and must be read in order. You will have no idea what’s going on if you read this as a stand-alone.

Holy cow - I’m still wrapping my mind around this book and will be for a while. So much happens! Kai continues to write super interesting cases, with lots of details that come together in such a satisfying way. The pacing of the story is perfection, and every single character and detail is added with thought and care, only making the story better and better. This book is quite long and I didn’t want to put it down for a single second.

In this one there is a lot of aftermath to what happened at the end of the previous book, especially with Parker. This poor guy hasn’t gotten a break since the series started. The tension and weight of everything Parker has had to handle since book one continues to build and build and build. The real question is how much can Parker shoulder before it all blows up?

I am honestly so nervous for Nick and Parker’s relationship. I trust that the series will end in an HEA, but these two have dealt with so much and cracks are starting to form with all that Parker keeps inside. Nick is all in, but Parker has a lot of reasons for being afraid to fully trust Nick with his heart. I really hope there’s no crazy relationship drama in the next book. These two need to TALK, get everything out in the open, and form a truly united front. Fingers crossed!

I don’t want to get into the plot because even the smallest thing might be a spoiler. Just know that I was on the edge of my seat and there were definitely a few times where I was genuinely surprised by what happens. It was just so dang good!

Quick mention of the side characters - there are a ton and they all add to the story in their own way. Again, Kai is very careful and deliberate about what is written into the story. And I love so many of them, but Sugar is hands down my favorite. She’s hilarious, but also very caring and helps keep Parker in check.

This is one of the best fantasy series that I’ve ever read and you MUST read it if you’re a fantasy reader. I think this is also a great intro to fantasy as it’s easy to follow and not a single moment of these books have dragged or had a forced plot line.

Another fantastic book in the series!

This series just keeps getting better and better! I don’t know how Kai Butler keeps coming up with these interesting investigation plots! There’s always so much going on and all the different threads slowly weave together and resolve over the course of the book, and then she hits us with a teaser on the last page! I love to see Parker and Nick work magic together. Their relationship is strong, but Parker still has a tendency to want to keep secrets and it worries me! Parker’s rough childhood has a big effect on his relationships and there were some very emotional moments in this book. Avila and Zahide are fantastic characters, and I love Sugar, Parker’s sister Laurel, and the found family aspect of Parker’s household. I love the silly, whimsical moments as well, like Parker getting a brownie infestation in his crappy car. I just love this series so much! Highly recommend it if you like paranormal investigation that has humor, emotion, action, suspense, and lots of magic.

The audiobook is narrated by Greg Tremblay/Boudreaux and he was great as usual—with one exception. I didn’t love the accent he gave to Malus. Other than that, I love his voice and he’s always so good with the emotional parts.

Awesome book!

I love Parker and Nick and their found family. I'm always excited to see what adventures Parker will get up to. This book has several moments that made me giggle. I know I'm going to be a little sad when this series ends, but I'm also positive this is a series I'll re-read or listen to again.

Good 3rd book.

I am really enjoying this series. Not of fan of the cliffhanger(ish) ending, though.

I love all the characters in this story, the twist and turns, the setup for the next one, lose ends, all throughout.
Even though I felt like it dragged in places, and I did hit the 30 second ff a couple of times. I was over all excited by it and will happily keep buying the series.

The narration that Greg gave is once again amazing and just brings this whole story to life.
