    Episode Summary:

In this eye-opening episode of Sport Is Life, Ian Hawkins dives into the hidden cause behind recurring sports injuries and it’s not just physical. Using high-profile players like Cody Walker and Tom Trbojevic as case studies, Ian explores how suppressed emotions particularly unprocessed anger and stress, may be the missing piece in chronic injury recovery. Despite world-class rehab treatments, many athletes remain stuck in pain cycles because the deeper, emotional root causes are left unresolved.

Through personal stories and powerful examples, Ian explains how our bodies reflect what our minds and hearts refuse to process. Ian discusses how emotional repression, especially in men, shows up in the body and why conventional rehab often fails to address this.

Whether you're an athlete, coach, or someone who keeps hitting physical limits despite doing all the right things, this episode will change how you view performance, injury, and healing.

The takeaway? If the injury keeps returning, it's time to look within.

From late-night touring tales in Argentina to pivotal moments in the commentary box, including the unforgettable day he called Argentina’s first-ever win against the All Blacks after his young son briefly went missing, Andrew brings listeners into the raw, real and sometimes chaotic behind-the-scenes world of sports broadcasting. With reflections on resilience, connection, and seizing opportunities, this episode is a reminder that the spirit of sport is often less about winning and more about the stories, people, and moments that shape who we become.

    About the Guest:

Andrew Swain is a seasoned sports journalist and broadcaster whose career spans more than two decades across television, radio, and digital media. From humble beginnings volunteering his time on radio, and then becoming a Street Teamer on Triple M, he moved into a Sports Reporter role at Fox Sports News, covering a wide array of major sporting events, and building a reputation for his engaging storytelling, and deep understanding of the games he covered.

A passionate rugby union and cricket fan from a young age, Swain’s early years in the industry saw him report on everything from NRL, international cricket, golf, football, and every other sport you can imagine.
