Acerca de esta escucha

Silas Marner is a gentle linen weaver who is framed for a heinous theft by his best friend. Exiled from the sphere of human trust and love, he becomes a recluse, caring only for the gold he receives for his work. But when an abandoned child mysteriously appears at his cottage one New Year's Eve, Silas discovers an unselfish love that will ultimately lead to his redemption. George Eliot shows how character is rewarded in this ageless, heartwarming novel.Public Domain (P)1989 Blackstone Audio, Inc. Clásicos Sincero

Loved it!

One of my favorites. Nadia May did a super job of reading the different parts. This is my second time listening.

Good Listen

Have you listened to any of Nadia May’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Nadia May is always great to listen to. She is clear and is always sensitive to the authors nuances and has a good grasp of the play of dialogue, being able to bring it off the page. She understands the era she narrates and thus her renderings are always good.

Reread after many years

I read this book in the 9th grade, and only remembered the remarkable ending, and that I liked the book. So now, many years later, I listened to it read by Nadia May, and fell in love with the story again. What a lesson this story teaches us! If you have never read it, put it on your bucket list.

Unusual but very good.

Silas is a very unconventional protagonist. He struggled to live humbly in a sometimes hostile and unfair world.

Great, but...

This is a fairly good reading of Eliot's novel, however, I would avoid buying it solely to avoid Nadia May's ghastly rendition of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen"!! What was she thinking? What was the producer thinking allowing it!?

One of the best books ever written

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, The story is a wonderful example of redemption. and the softening of a bitter mans heart by the goodness of a child's ability to make things right. The love that Silas develops for the little girl is priceless.

Have you listened to any of Nadia May’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No. She did a great job with all the voices

Any additional comments?

A good read with great life lessons

I have never listened to or read George Elliot before.
But I loved this book.
It made me go online andl look up several historical things I was curious about, but mostly, I loved the characters and the story.
It showed so clearly how those tragedies in our lives can also be the events which are the most beneficial to us down the road in life.
The best lesson, expressed so beautifully, is that God is more tender and kind than we, and if He allows tragedy, He will eventually bring wonderful good out of it.
Absolutely a lovely principle to reflect on at any time.
(It did start a bit slow, but hang in there!)
