But the games ended the night Emma sleepily watched the others sneak out of the cabin into the darkness. The last she - or anyone - saw of them was Vivian closing the cabin door behind her, hushing Emma with a finger pressed to her lips. Now a rising star in the NYC art scene, Emma's paintings catch the attention of Francesca Harris-White, the socialite and wealthy owner of the very same Camp Nightingale.

Historia
No visitors. No nights spent away from the apartment. No disturbing the other residents, all of whom are rich or famous or both. These are the only rules for Jules Larsen’s new job as an apartment sitter at the Bartholomew, one of Manhattan's most high-profile and mysterious buildings. As she gets to know the residents and staff of the Bartholomew, Jules finds herself drawn to fellow apartment sitter Ingrid. When Ingrid confides that the Bartholomew is not what it seems, Jules brushes it off as a harmless ghost story...until the next day, when Ingrid disappears.

Really liked this. A quick little mystery thriller. The audio book narrator did an excellent job and so did the author. Interesting premise, and had no slow parts. This has become an auto buy author for me.

Good conclusion!
Revisado: 07-10-19
I got what I wanted from this trilogy. It was highly unique and just the right amount of atmosphere. Horrifying without just throwing gore at the reader. I do think it could've all just been one book as each of the three starts exactly where the one before ended and they are all the fairly short. But that's my only real criticism.

Historia
College professor Stephen Barlow needs cash. Badly. He puts his skepticism aside and signs on to a paranormal research organization in the hopes of scoring a fat bonus. Enter Chaythe Asylum: a long-shuttered and controversial institution where patients were allegedly subjected to unethical experiments. Stephen deems the old building, closed in 1989 after a series of grisly murders, as good a place as any to explore the possibility of the supernatural, and arranges to take a tour with his students. But it turns out that the asylum is not as abandoned as it seems. There is something sinister in the building.

Definitely got creeped out listening to this. The premise was interesting and the atmosphere was ideal. I do still have questions but I hope to have them answered in the following books in the series.

Historia
Modern medicine has conquered or contained many of the diseases that used to carry children away before their time, reducing mortality and improving health. Vaccination and treatment are widely available. There are still monsters left to fight, but the old ones, the simple ones, trouble us no more. Or so we thought. For with the reduction in danger comes the erosion of memory, as pandemics fade from memory into story into fairy tale. Those old diseases can't have been so bad, people say, or we wouldn't be here to talk about them. They're never coming back.... It begins with a fever.

The only negative I have for this book is that I didn't want it to end. The premise is feasible so it's terrifying! This author never fails me. Her writing is believable and utterly entrancing!

Not bad
Revisado: 06-28-19
I liked this for a short listen. I usually don't like short stories but this was okay. The best part was the last line.
The narrator did well other than one character that was just hard to understand. I know why he went the way he did with that character but it was still hard to get everything he was saying. Over all it was good.
