"You should not have answered its call...."

Professor Stephen Barlow is no longer a skeptic. Having faced the horrors of Chaythe Asylum, he turns his attention to the man responsible for the Third Ward Incident - the enigmatic Dr. Corvine - in the hopes of finding answers to his many questions.

But some things, he soon learns, are better left lost to history.

Traveling to a remote cabin in Michigan in search of the doctor and his research, Stephen finds himself descending deeper into a world of terror and madness. He and his students uncover the frightful truth about Corvine's experiments and realize that they may have unleashed something terrible in their meddling.

Forest is the second novel in the Afterlife Investigations trilogy.

Forest is the second volume in The Afterlife Investigation series by Ambrose Ibsen, picking up where the excellent Asylum left off. Having survived the events at the asylum, Stephen just couldn't leave well enough alone. Whatever they encountered at the asylum is now out and free and Stephen feels compelled to look further into the incident. And his investigation leads down quite the rabbit hole. I enjoyed the story quite a bit, though perhaps not as much as the first volume, mainly because of how the book ends, leaving you right after a major incident. (No spoilers) So while it does really leave you wanting to know what happens next, it just didn't feel like as a complete of a story arc as the first. (Does that make sense?)

Joe Hempel continues the excellent narration he began in the first volume, bringing this creepy tale to life.

This is a really good story, but this book ended in what I would consider the middle of a scene. I hate it when books do that.

Great story

Forest is another wonderful Ambrose Ibsen book narrated by Joe Hempel. This one is the second book in The Afterlife Investigations and is part of a trilogy. I would definitely recommend reading the first book in the series, Asylum, before reading this one, as there is a really good backstory to the trilogy and, well, I think it just really completes the story for the reader more. This time around, Prof. Barlow and Jake are on the hunt to find/save Elizabeth and learn more about what really happened to Dr. Corvine and the whole story behind Chaythe Asylum.

I have become a HUGE fan of Ambrose Ibsen's work as well as Joe Hempel's narration. I know that they are a consistent duo that will be worth the price or credit every time. Mr. Ibsen continues to create, fun, creepy, totally unique stories that I listen to pretty much nonstop until I finish them. Pairing Joe Hempel's narration, well, it pretty much makes listening such an easy thing to do that I can almost see the movie playing as Joe narrates. Only thing that drive me nuts in this book was the hand full of times that Mackinac was pronounced completely wrong. It was pronounced 'Mack-eh-knack,' when it should be pronounced 'Mack-eh-naw.' But hey, if that is the only negative, then they still rate 5 stars for this audiobook.

I cannot wait for the third book in the series to come out on Audible, The Occupant. Ambrose, if I can make one suggestion?? Please make your books longer. You're such a creative writer in a genre where there are so few truly new ideas, and, well, I wish they lasted longer!

this story was scarier than the first book in the series. Fast passes and intense all the way through.

Riveting horror story

This is Second book in series. While the first book Asylum can be read as a stand alone story this book is a direct continuation of the first book. The storyline is not as compelling as the first book’s and it ends unresolved. That means you have to get the Third Book in the series to find out what happens. It really feels like the 2nd and 3rd book were really just One book broken into 2 parts. When a book is 30 hours breaking it up into 2 separate books might be justified. This book is Just 5 hours and Book 3 is 6 hours. Since each book cost 10$ or 1 credit that’s pretty pricey especially when it seems like the entire series of three books could have been easily been released as one book or two at the most. The series is good but it artificially overpriced.

This series grabbed my attention from the start, actuallt the narrator/author combination grabbed my attention from the start. In this series there's this rather pathetic college adjunct professor who's unfullfilled in life until he gets involved with a paranormal group on campus. His life changes drastically.

Some new characters are added and a secret about an original character is revealed. It's a good one too and has me edging for the next book. He's seeking and exploring this strange being encountered in the first book and more is revealed along with its possible motive and the crazy doctors motive. The characters are full and interesting. The story is intense and suspenseful. The plot continues to thicken and draw me in.

Excellent!

Loved it!

Forest: The Afterlife Investigations, Book 2 by Ambrose Ibsen is a great sequel to the first book. Some listeners may be disappointed that there is a little less paranormal in this volume of the story and more investigation into the past. I personally enjoyed that part of the story digging into the past and the horrible experiments by Dr. Corvine's that freed the occupant and what drove him to do these experiments. This is a great sequel and I can't wait for the next part of the story. I highly recommend this audiobook.

The narration is done by Mr. Joe Hempel. Mr. Hempel's work on these stories from Ambrose Ibsen is always a winning combination. Joe provides the prefect voice's for these characters and emotes the fear and trepidation that they experience during this story. He is just an amazing narrator.

I did not read or listen to the story that precedes this one. If you haven’t, do that first. I went ahead and listened to this anyway. It is well written and well read.
