Historia
When the Royal Wizard of Westland poisons the king so that his puppet prince can take the throne and start a continental war, a young squire is forced to run for his life carrying the powerful sword that his dying monarch burdened him with from the death bed. Two brothers find a magic ring and start on paths to becoming the most powerful sort of enemies, while an evil young sorceress unwillingly falls in love with one of them when he agrees to help her steal a dragon's egg for her father.

Really REALLY Bad Narration
Revisado: 02-07-25
My biggest complaint is the bad narration in the audible book. He speaks quickly in the middle of the sentence with a sort of flat tome and then draws out and slows down the last words in the sentence. It literally is so distracting that I can't focus on the story.
I can't even remember if there was swearing or sex because all I could hear was the weird way he spoke.

They have always scared him in the past - the Rangers, with their dark cloaks and shadowy ways. The villagers believe the Rangers practice magic that makes them invisible to ordinary people. And now 15-year-old Will, always small for his age, has been chosen as a Ranger's apprentice. What he doesn't yet realize is that the Rangers are the protectors of the kingdom. Highly trained in the skills of battle and surveillance, they fight the battles before the battles reach the people. And as Will is about to learn, there is a large battle brewing.

I read this outloud to my boys as children and it is still one of their favorites (now as adults). I have listened to it many times and it really has everything - action, adventure and growth. Plus. it's clean!

Historia
Felix's life on Earth had become a series of dead-end jobs, ruined relationships, and rotating apartments smaller than most postage stamps. By all accounts, even his own, he was a coward. Too afraid to move forward, to take risks. Yet when given the chance to choose between risking his life or walking away from a deadly encounter, he didn't hesitate. Moments before his untimely demise, Felix was snatched from earth and thrust into a magical world known only as "The Continent". Empowered by the "System", he learns that he can strengthen himself through combat and dedication.

Too many f-bombs
Revisado: 09-22-24
You ruined ice cream with a sprinkle of cockroaches. Too many f-bombs. It wasn't even just the personality of a certain character; it was everyone swearing. What a wasted chance; the author could have taken the opportunity to explore the differences in culture between the 2 planets with how they expressed themselves when they were angry. Instead everyone used an equal helping of f-bombs.
Unfortunately, I will not be reading the rest of the series. I'm not even going to finish the last 1/4 of the book, which is a shame because the story itself was more than good. It had a heavy dose of the undefineable "IT" factor that magically brings the story to life.
Also, the narrator is fabulous. Truly gifted.

I don't like flies in my ice cream. It was all good except... swearing
Revisado: 06-25-24
There were lots of things I really enjoyed about this story. The premise was interesting. I like the mix of magic and tech. The characters were fun. I especially liked the interactions between Collin and the rest. He's a good side character. I don't really like him as a person (although he is growing on me) but he makes for an interesting and fun story.
I didn't like the amount of swearing. It gets worse the further you read. I suppose that's because things get harder. But I don't like all the f-bombs. If you plan on using them liberally, then I'd rather be warned early before I get invested in the book. Or a much better option is you could simply be more creative with the writing.
Also, I had trouble with some of the battle scenes. Yes, battle is violent. However, I personally would have preferred some more big brain moments. The planning and work up to a single hit is more interesting to me than a page of crushing bloody fighting. One is just smacking each other around, the other has tension. Especially, if it doesn't always work so the reader doesn't know if all this set up is going to plan out.
All that being said, I did really get invested in the story. The author does have that "it" factor that makes a great read. And I did put off chores and adulting so I could keep listening.

Historia
Humans have been pushed to the brink of extinction by an ever-evolving demonic threat. Portals are opening faster than ever, Towers are bursting into the skies, and Dungeons are being mined below the last safe havens of society. The demons are winning. Quest Academy stands defiantly against them as a place to train the next generation of Heroes. The Guild Association is holding the line but is in dire need of new blood and the powerful abilities they could bring to the battlefront. To be the saviors that humanity needs, they need to surpass the limits of those that came before them.

like eating ice cream with flies in it
Revisado: 06-11-24
The story and premise were top notch, BUT there was so much swearing and friends with benefits and adults/role models making sexual advances on teens like it's perfectly normal and an okay thing to do. It isn't. Not my thing. I want to read about people with some morals.

Historia
When Finlay Ashowan joins the staff of the King and Queen of Daxaria, he’s an enigma. No one knows where he comes from or how he came to be where he is, which suits Fin just fine. He’s satisfied simply serving as the royal cook, keeping nosy passersby out of his kitchen, and concocting some truly uncanny meals. But Fin’s secret identity doesn’t stay hidden for long. After all, it’s not every day a house witch and his kitten familiar, Kraken, take to meddling in imperial affairs.

Trying too hard to be funny
Revisado: 05-17-24
It's described as a heartwarming and humorous blend of fantasy. I really enjoyed the story and the light hearted nature of the writing.
However, the humor is middle school boy sexual. Think... someone with the last name of Fuck or the stupid things someone does while drunk. There is an amazing amount of drinking and drunken activity.
Not quite my thing even thought it was a great premise and I liked the story idea. I would have been interested in seeing the story (premise) progress further.

What happens when you suddenly find yourself in a reality of untold possibilities, in a place where technology and magic are indistinguishable? Every game location is a transformed physical world connected to others through an interstellar network of portals. Every player "avatar" is a living physical body with incredible survival traits. Once in this dreamscape, it would be unwise to not seize the moment! There are, however, a couple of catches.

Too much swearing
Revisado: 03-27-24
The story line was intriguing. However, the blurring of right and wrong simply because you are in a game was terrible. Murder is okay because I got an assasins quest. Yuck! Plus way too many f-bombs.

Eli suddenly wakes up on a metal table before getting tossed into the middle of a magical, monster-infested forest. If that wasn't bad enough, the experimental technology in his head is acting up, causing all sorts of problems, and the nearest medical specialist might as well be a universe away. Thankfully, Eli has some magic he's learning to use, which should help him survive in this dangerous new world. Eyes of the Sign is the first book in a series focused on the sequestered world of Lurra. This LitRPG (Gamelit) story offers epic world-building with plenty of mysteries to be uncovered, ...

There was some swearing, more towards the end but thankfully not everywhere. I enjoyed the characters and the plot was good. I wish I understood what happened with his brain computer better. I felt like it kind of left that hanging. It was exactly the RPG kind of book I wanted to read. thanks.

Fight, survive, adapt, and rely only on yourself. That is Derek’s creed and what's got him through the System Integration on Earth. Everything changed when the System came. Cute bunnies and beautiful butterflies became savage killing machines. Then the Invaders arrived with a single goal: to obtain ownership of this new habitable planet. War has raged ever since. None of this mattered much to Derek, aside from making living a little more perilous.

love the story, but swearing
Revisado: 01-28-24
I really liked so many things about this book, except the number of f-bombs. interestingly they were limited to a few scenes so not as bad as some books where the swearing is spread everywhere.
