The Balance of Wonder and Terror Learn the truth of the secret war in space with both the Soviets and dark technomancers bent on world domination in Gods in Darkness. Thrill to incredible truths buried in the sands of ages or in our own Area 51 in The Dig. Ride along with some crazed truckers dealing with Lovecraftian horrors in At the Highways of Madness. Know the stark terror of reading a forbidden book of the damned when the stars are not right. Love knows no bounds through time and space--especially for one of Lovecraft's Elder Things in The Queen in Shadow. And finally, go beyond the ...

Wow, that was bad.
Revisado: 04-21-25
Badly written to start with, the computer voice does it no favors.
For perspective, I waited two hours, just so I'd be past the 20% mark. Because I needed to warn other fans of Weird Fiction, to avoid this pile of drivel.

The galaxy remembers Hadrian Marlowe as a hero: the man who burned every last alien Cielcin from the sky. They remember him as a monster: the devil who destroyed a sun, casually annihilating four billion human lives - even the emperor himself - against Imperial orders. But Hadrian was not a hero. He was not a monster. He was not even a soldier. Fleeing his father and a future as a torturer, Hadrian finds himself stranded on a strange, backwater world.

Revisado: 08-18-24
Long winded, derivative, and unfortunately relies on smart characters making stupid choices.
However, truly excellent world building and atmosphere.
Not really my speed, if you liked Game of Thrones you'll probably like this.

Ursula LeGuin, doesn't disappoint, one of best Fantasy Writers in American history.
George Guidall, is perfect for this, dialogue light but thought heavy, narrative.

Historia
When Alice Verianna went to sleep, she was just another teen from the Denver suburbs. She definitely didn't expect to be transported to a magical alternate dimension, inhabited by monsters and presided over by a mysterious System. Here, people resemble RPG characters and everyone has access to their own status screens. Grappling with the mechanics of the elusive System isn't the only challenge Alice faces. It seems an underground organization known as the Society of Starry Eyes has taken a particular interest in other dimensions.

Revisado: 04-28-24
Mostly it's fun World Building, but sometimes the author forgets the main character is 15, and goes on a soliloquy worthy of r/Atheist with some "and then every one clapped" vibes.

A group of pretend adventurers suit up for a campaign called "The South Seas Treasure Game". As in the early role-playing games, there are dungeon masters, warriors, magicians, and thieves. The difference? At Dream Park, a futuristic fantasy theme park full of holographic attractions and the latest in VR technology, they play in an artificial enclosure that has been enhanced with special effects, holograms, actors, and a clever story line. The players get as close as possible to truly living their adventure.

Revisado: 01-09-24
As a Gamer myself, I have a hard time believing the authors ever played D&D or were even involved in a single LARP. It's almost good, but the plot relies on people being really stupid. Also, it's painful date.

In this course, the roots of fantasy and the works that have defined the genre are examined. Incisive analysis and a deft assessment of what makes these works so very special provides a deeper insight into beloved works and a better understanding of why fantasy is such a pervasive force in modern culture.

Historia
Powers of Darkness is an incredible literary discovery. In 1900, Icelandic publisher and writer Valdimar Asmundsson set out to translate Bram Stoker's world-famous 1897 novel Dracula. Called Makt Myrkranna (literally, 'Powers of Darkness'), this Icelandic edition included an original preface written by Stoker himself. Makt Myrkranna was published in Iceland in 1901 but remained undiscovered outside of the country until 1986, when Dracula scholarship was astonished by the discovery of Stoker's preface to the book.

Impressively Bad
Revisado: 10-16-22
This might be the worst porn on Audible.
Our characters are supposed to be college aged, but talk and act more like grad schoolers, I'm not convinced the author ever went to college.
The narrator does her best, but is hampered by poor dialog, and isn't that talented to begin with.
I wasn't expecting a well written plot, or complex characters, but it isn't even very erotic.
tl'dr: not interesting enough to care about the story, and not erotic enough to masturbate to.
