Acerca de esta escucha

On the edge of a war-weary and devastated galaxy, charismatic Lewis Orne has landed on Hamal. His assignment: To detect any signs of latent aggression in this planet's population. To his astonishment, he finds that his own latent extrasensory powers have suddenly blossomed, and he is invited to join the company of "gods" on this planet - and the people here place certain expectations on their gods.

The Godmakers is an expansion of four short stories written from 1958 - 1960. It is an exploration of the concepts of war and peace, government and religion.

In my opinion, some books translate to audiobook better than others. This story is told in sections that I think are a little easier to process when reading the physical book. There are no discernible “part one: x part two: y part three: z” breaks in the telling so it is easy to become lost. While listening it can become disorienting at first during new sections. I found myself starting several sections over as I became incredibly confused trying to associate the events/conversations taking place with what I had just heard.

I enjoy this narrator. I would assume the reviewer(s) that say he has a monotonous cadence with no inflection or emotion have incredibly high standards. Likely these people are looking for something highly produced with sound effects/different narrators etc. Though some “amazon originals” are like this, I would not categorize them as audiobooks.

I would like someone to catalog for me how many times Frank Herbert has had the words “tried to swallow in a dry throat” published.

Good story, not SUPER easy to follow

Normally I love everything on audible but this book.... it was like the microphone sensitivity was too low and the end of nearly every sentence is chopped off. you can still follow what's going on but it was very annoying and not something I'd dealt with before on audible. the story was as straightforward as you can get... standard investigative TV show in a book... and then all of a sudden bam.... god mode. it killed time on a long drive though...

choppy audio and an uninspiring story

Frank Herbert does a wonderful job of world-building on a small scale in this one. the characters have their unique personalities subtlety fleshed out in an enjoyable manner and the concepts explored here are wildly intriguing. I want so much more than I got, but I'm happy I was able to experience at least a little slice of this world.

Enjoy the read. The climax leaves you wanting more

Sort of explores what would a person with unlimited psychic powers would be like and it's relationship to religion. Also covers a different perspective of how to look at the universe through the lense of time while rolled up into a good story line.

Little Date, but we'll done

Herbert’s exploration of the human condition by way of fiction is profound. The psychology elucidated in his work predates Jordan Peterson’s “Maps of Meaning” by decades, but could have been directly quoted from the pages of it before they were written.
Herbert was genius. Ahead of his time.

Herbert doesn’t just hit the target other’s miss, he sees the target others cannot see.

The two storylines don't connect very well, it's almost as if this is two different stories but were just tied together haphazardly. It's hard to care about the first one after the much more interesting story is presented.

It was OK

Makes you think, interesting premise. The actor could have used a little more variety to differentiate voices. Overall, I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

Better than expected
