Historia
This is an academic work describing how the New Testament writers re-purpose Genesis 6:1-5 in their presentation of Jesus as messiah. Though every topic addressed in Reversing Hermon can be found in scholarly academic literature, Reversing Hermon is the first book to gather this information and make it accessible to Bible students everywhere. The book also includes lengthy appendices on the ancient debate on the inspiration of the book of 1 Enoch, New Testament allusions to the book, and academic resources.

Great author, held back by bad audio files
Revisado: 04-27-23
I enjoy the works of Dr. Heiser and for the most part this one doesn't disappoint. The problem is with the actual audio files to where I am not sure if I am missing any of the material. This became evident with chapter 9, where while listening to it half way through the chapter the audio starts from the beginning of the chapter (not that the file restarted, but rather halfway through you hear the narrator start from the beginning of the chapter) thus making it unsure if the end of the file is actually the end of the chapter or if it was also cut off.

Jumps around too much and needs better narrator
Revisado: 11-12-20
Jumps around too much and Narrator over emphasizes the soft consonants
I am not sure which was more distracting, the fact that the story jumps around between different characters that appear for the most part unrelated, or the narrator's soft voice and stressing the soft consonants. Think making a Marvel movie jumping between snippets of Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America for the most part, then throwing snippets towards the end of the first Avengers movie. The combination of the two made it hard for me to really get into the story or even keep track of what exactly is fully going on in the story.

Slow start to an epic dragon-back demolition derby
Revisado: 11-05-20
I will say this was a good story and the only fault I have with it doesn't warrant me giving it a lower score. When listening to audio books I tend to prefer those that grab my attention from the start and keep my mind from wandering off. Unfortunately, because of the need to set the story up properly for the end, I often found my mind wandering for the first couple of chapters. I do feel that if I personally was reading it rather than listening, it would still have received a 5-star rating. I mean how many times does one hear discombobulate in a story and more than once.

Great story, subpar audio recording
Revisado: 09-12-20
Great story that captivates you in wanting to keep listening. The only problem is there are times when you can tell they had to splice in a backup recording as the audio quality and volume changes which can be distracting after a while. If I was just looking at the overall story, I have to give it 4.5 stars as it kept me interested in wanting to learn what happens next, but I will also say I am unclear as to the age of the audience the author was targeting as names tend to be geared towards a younger audience, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone younger than possibly mid-teens due to the violence; however overall due to the audio quality I would give it 3.5 to 4 stars.

Great blending of different myths and folklore
Revisado: 09-12-20
I will say I wasn't fully sure what to expect with this story as the synopsis appears to make it seem like it is full fantasy, but the author brings a modern twist to the story. They blend together a tale of a child from modern times entering into a fantasy realm filled with characters from different cultures myths, folklore, and legends; bringing about a grand adventure that keeps you wanting to find out what happens next, even at the end as you will want to find out what happens to the characters after the story is over.

One religion, two opposing views leading to war
Revisado: 09-01-20
Let me start out by stating I got a review copy of this book not realizing there was a book 1, but that doesn't change my review as Tavenor does a good job with Enemies of Light to where I didn't realize there was a book 1 until I got to the closing credits of the book. If you like stories of the main character being led by fate/destiny to where they seemingly fall into the situation due to reasons out of their control, then this is a story for you. I can also see some inspiration possibly taken from the concept of the Protestant Reformation in how they have a "Holy Empire" at war with a nation that appears to hold similar religious beliefs, but both sides view the other as being heretics. I will say I am wanting to go back and listen/read book 1 as well as I can't wait to experience book 3.
