The AI voice is difficult to follow
Revisado: 04-13-25
The AI voice made it really difficult to follow the story. The mispronunciation of words as well as the flatness of the voice was like nails on a chalkboard. I will say that the message of the story was important, if you can make it through to the end.

Loved this book!

This book talked about a completely unfunny topic in a very funny way. Almost everyone of color can definitely relate, and I hope that people take what was discussed and call it out in order to make a positive change.

Historia
In the near future, when America has become a police state, 100 boys are selected to enter an annual contest where the winner will be awarded whatever he wants for the rest of his life. Among them is 16-year-old Ray Garraty, and he knows the rules - keep a steady walking pace of four miles per hour without stopping. Three warnings and you're out - permanently.

One of my favorites
Revisado: 09-03-18
I have no idea what took me so long to read/listen to this book. I'm putting in a few spoilers - reading this story made me feel like I was walking right along with these boys. My feet started to hurt, I was exhausted and hungry and at the end, I questioned everything! Each year, 100 boys participate in a long walk with the goal of winning the Prize. Walkers are given three warnings before they issued a ticket which then, takes them out, permanently. In the end, there can only be one winner, but the question is, is the winner really a winner? Not only is the reader able to feel some of the physical aspects of this story, but you're also brought into this as a spectator who constantly and disturbingly, cheers these boys on. This story is not only physical, but also examines human drive and the descent of some of these boys into madness. This is one story that you'll read again and again. The only problem I had with the audiobook was with the performance.Sometimes the audio would skip, not enough to stop listening to the story, but enough to notice and have to rewind about 30 seconds. Otherwise, excellent book!

Not bad but not the best
Revisado: 09-03-18
I LOVE Stephen King books and I purchased this one thinking it would be as good as the others I've read. I have to say, it was ok. I'm not sure if it's because I'm not a vampire fan but, I had to push myself a bit in order to finish the story. To me, it seemed like it dragged on. I didn't like the characters, could have been that they weren't developed enough for me. Plus, it took so long to get to the plot of the story. I don't think I'll be reading this book again.
