A good foundation, I liked it
Revisado: 02-15-23
I would encourage you to ignore that review from 2 years ago. If you’re an experienced, hot shot consultant, I don’t know why you’re looking at a book on consulting basics in the first place. I think he just doesn’t like being advised on anything by a woman, but I digress. If you’re a true novice, like myself, and are looking for a solid primer on consulting for yourself then I definitely recommend this book. It’s not a long listen so it was never going to go super in-depth with “how to”, but it covers the essentials enough and provides solid tips gained from experience so you can dig deeper where you need to. Ultimately, no amount of mechanics will ever help someone who thinks they know everything anyway; I’ve taught for years, hasn’t worked yet.

Loved the book, loved the audiobook
Revisado: 04-12-19
I read this in traditional book form years ago and it’s been a favorite ever since. In audio form, it was wonderful hearing these wise words spoken to me. Occasionally there’s a rustling in the background that you can hear, but if you focus on that then you’ve missed the point and value of this book completely. Best wishes on your millionaire journey!

These cases are horrifyingly real, and the detail is so mesmerizing you won't be able to turn it off.

6 STARS!!!
Revisado: 03-16-19
I first heard about Detective Joe Kenda in December when I discovered Homicide Hunter while I was home on vacation. Only watched half an episode, but I was thoroughly impressed by the little I’d seen. Fast forward to this week when I discovered he was on Investigation Discovery’s “Detective” podcast for 10 episodes and loved each and every one; highly recommend. Then I discovered this audiobook yesterday and finished it 24 hours later. This man is AMAZING. Not only was he a great detective, he’s a great storyteller. If you’re a new or aspiring investigator or detective, you simply MUST get your hands on this book and anything else this man puts out. After listening to him on the podcasts, this was was the resource I hoped was out there. I won’t give anything away, just trust me: if you’re in the investigation life like I am, you need this book! 6 stars, ‘nough said.

Better than expected!
Revisado: 03-04-19
I’d hoped this would be a useful book, but when you see the ratings or reviews you wonder. But this was full of the tips and tricks used by an experienced private investigator that you clamor for as a rookie, which I am. The section on identity theft was VERY informative. I can see why some people might think, “could he have included even more how-to?” But this isn’t an encyclopedia, and it would take a few volumes to capture all that information. It’s a great starting point, with simple things even the average citizen could do, and if he wrote a sequel I’d get it. In fact, the only issue I noticed was at the beginning when I couldn’t make out if he was saying “baseball”; it sounded like “basewoof”.

Popularized in the media by highly rated police procedurals, crime scene investigation is an often misunderstood field of endeavor. Here, Professor Shaler breaks down the intricacies of how investigations are conducted in the real world, examining such aspects as bloodstain analysis, shooting scenes, and “forensic bugs”.

Revisado: 12-18-18
I saw a lot of complaints about the author doing the narration, but personally I didn’t mind. It gave me the feeling that I was actually sitting in a college lecture. He’s extremely knowledgeable and you can really develop a good foundation in crime scene investigation from the material. There’s a glitch around 7:04 in Chapter 6: it repeated the beginning of the chapter then skipped back to where it was supposed to be. That was the only performance issue I noticed.

In this 45-minute listen, a former spy introduces two simple tools for thinking. The first describes how we think. The second helps us think ahead. Then, they're reapplied to Saddam Hussein's stockpiling (or not) of weapons of mass destruction.
