The best characters!
Revisado: 10-15-24
Okay, first let me say that I love David R. Slayton’s writing and I think where he really excels is character creation. I adore these characters. Argent may be one of my favorite characters of any book ever…and I’m also a big fan of Vran. This book felt like sort of an introduction to the school and characters more than anything else. There was plot but not a whole lot was going on until the end…which was…what?!? I hope there’s more in this series because I cannot be left hanging like this!! I honestly could have handled this book being a little longer. It didn’t seem as action packed as the Adam Binder series, but again maybe it was because it’s an introduction. But most importantly more Vran! #endrant

New York Times best-selling author Kylie Scott presents two stand-alone novellas in this must-listen collection. Colonist's Wife: She'll run to the far corners of space to avoid her violent history, hide her true identity, and pass herself off as a mail-order bride. But no one can escape their past forever. And as for her new husband...well, he's nothing like she expected.

Too much ick
Revisado: 07-25-24
In the colonists wife Louise is constantly thinking about doing violence to her husband like hitting him and such. There circumstances are strained but I didn’t like it. Also Adam then turns around and pressures her into sex in public places when she’s clearly uncomfortable with it. Then in hearts a mess, Violet’s boss repeatedly ignores her requests to stop pursuing her romantically or sexually which he completely ignores. Of course they’re just stories and it’s fiction so everyone’s actually really into it…but it just punched my ick buttons too much. They’re short and steamy though, which I think is the point.

Historia
Homeless and jobless, Fenn Todd has nearly run out of hope. All he has left are his longing for horses and the strength of his own two hands. But when he's cheated into accepting a very ugly sackcloth horse, he's catapulted into a world of magic, politics, and desire. Fenn's invited to stay at the black tower, home of the most terrifying man in the realm: Morgrim, the court sorcerer. Morgrim has a reputation as a scheming villain, but he seems surprisingly charming—and sexy—and Fenn falls hard. However, nothing is as it seems, and everyone at the tower is lying about something.

Quirky but charmings
Revisado: 07-22-24
This book was so weird and quirky and charming and spicy hot! Whew....The start was maybe a little slow and odd and I had trouble seeing where it was going, but a few chapters in and I was completely hooked. I really loved the main characters a lot. I liked that they were both in their forties. I appreciate fiction with mature characters sometimes. Fifty Shades can kiss my butt because this was BDSM written perfectly (for me anyway).

What did I just read?
Revisado: 07-03-24
Okay, first there were things I liked about this book but it did not live up to the hype for me. If you liked Game of Thrones but wished there was no incest, then I can see why you might really like this. Raeve as the heroine was exceedingly tough and prickly. Sometimes I liked her and she was certainly hilarious in her rebellious nature. She never ever backed down and there’s something to be said for that, but her lack of interest in her own past was frustrating.
I think I liked Kaan…or maybe I just mostly felt sorry for him? He was put in a really hard place most of the book. I can say that I really enjoyed the male narrator's voice since I listened to the audio book, sultry buttery such as it was. The reading was super slow though and I was able to more than double the speed and still soak everything in.
The back half of the book felt rambling…I think some editing for pacing would have really benefited here. I found myself getting a bit bored with how long it took to resolve the issues. The first half was full of action even if a bit confusing here and there. All in all, I was left with the feeling that I wanted to like it more than I actually did.

I don’t have the words
Revisado: 07-02-24
I don’t think I will have the right words to describe how much I enjoyed this book, but I’m going to try anyway. When I first read The Queer Principles of Kit Webb, I thought that I didn’t much like either main character at first but I fell in love with them as they fell in love with each other. Starting this book, already suspicious of Marian and Rob, I didn’t possibly think it could happen again. I was fully prepared to say it was fine, but I liked the first book more…Oh how I was wrong! I once again was charmed into loving these characters, their romance so raw and sweet and tender and different. Unconventional…the spicy was a bit unconventional too but it was so hot and just unbelievably real. It’s a bit boring when a sex scene feels interchangeable with any other. Following the romance novel formula, so to speak…but this THIS was so specific to the characters and their needs that I didn’t know whether to be turned on or cry from how beautiful it was. Both seem appropriate because it was still damn hot! The first book was m/m and this one is m/f and I read both depending on mood among other things so it was perfect for me that the author approached both with such skill. I didn’t quite realize the Robin Hood connection until I was almost through the book…Rob and Marian is a cute touch. Rob, the criminal, definitely has golden retriever energy and Marian is closer to black cat energy, but I didn’t feel like she was prickly towards him for too long. There really weren’t any moments I found myself growing bored and I chuckled to myself several times. I would read a hundred more books in this setting. Easily.

Robin Loxleigh and his sister Marianne are the hit of the Season, so attractive and delightful that nobody looks behind their pretty faces. Until Robin sets his sights on Sir John Hartlebury's heiress niece. The notoriously graceless baronet isn't impressed by good looks, or fooled by false charm. He's sure Robin is a liar - a fortune hunter, a card sharp, and a heartless, greedy fraud - and he'll protect his niece, whatever it takes.

Sweet and spicy
Revisado: 06-30-24
A sweet and spicy historical romance with very likable characters. I didn’t realize the connection with A Thief in the Night until Toby was mentioned, but I’m new to this author…though I must say I’m fast becoming a fan.

Cute but fast

Spicy in the first chapter but I don’t mind that. This is a cute quick feel good romance. It’s missing the development one gets in a full length novel, but it was still a fun read.

I loved this story but...
Revisado: 06-20-24
I loved this whole series. I really like the way the author deals with emotions...his characters are flawed and lovable. My complaint with this book is that Adam and Vic spent most of the book apart. I know maybe the romance wasn't the point of the series, but I'm a sucker for a good love story and I would have liked to see more of them together. Still can't wait for the Rogue Community College spin off series though!

Three months ago, I landed a job as a bartender. But not at a bar-at a guild. Yeah, the magic kind. I'm not a badass mage like my three smokin' hot best friends. I'm not a sorcerer or an alchemist, or even a wussy witch. I'm just a human, slinging drinks like a pro and keeping my non-magical nose out of mythic business. Seriously, I know my limits. So why am I currently standing in a black-magic ritual circle across from a fae lord? Somewhere behind me, my three mage friends are battling for their lives.
