Historia
When Marley McKinney's aging cousin, Jimmy, is hospitalized with pneumonia, she agrees to help run his pancake house while he recovers. With its rustic interior and syrupy scent, the Flip Side Pancake House is just as she pictured it - and the surly chef is a wizard with crêpes. Marley expects to spend a leisurely week or two in Wildwood Cove, the quaint, coastal community where she used to spend her summers, but then Cousin Jimmy is found murdered, sprawled on the rocks beneath a nearby cliff.

Enjoyable easy listening
Revisado: 03-30-24
I just finished a series where most of the characters were conniving and hateful, dealing with war and politics.
I needed a light story where the characters actually liked each other. This was perfect and it was a good story.

These ladies are the bomb!
Revisado: 03-09-23
It’s like listening to a friend tell a story, except with researched details. I went to see the musical “Six” and before I went I listened to the History Chicks podcasts on Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn and the “other four wives”. It really filled in the background details in the musical (which was fantastic).
History with a sense of humor.

Okay but a bit frustrating
Revisado: 11-21-17
The story was okay and kept my interest.
I couldn’t get past an experienced investigator not being able to defend herself. I also can’t believe someone so obviously out of control could be a detective. The main character needs work.

Begins terribly, ends well
Revisado: 07-22-17
I'm very confused about the ratings. It got a 3.9 at last check but the reviews are much lower.
The beginning was very confusing and disjointed. I almost gave up but I was painting the house so I just let it play.
The middle and end were much more interesting, after I figured out where the story was going.
I'm on the fence about recommending this book, unless you painting your house.

Dam'd funny!
Revisado: 03-22-17
Jodi is so tongue and cheek funny. The story is good at introducing her storyline.
She sprinkles in enough history to tingle my historian interests.
She needs a bit deeper male voice though. Sometimes I don't grasp that the character talking has changed.

Rich character development
Revisado: 02-11-17
I loved everything about this book. He seamlessly wove fiction into a rich musical history. I liked learning about the structure of a classical music piece and how he tied it to life.
I thought it very interesting the he had the character of music providing the narration.
Great character development in an interesting historical period within a rich niche of life.

Meet Ove. He's a curmudgeon - the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him "the bitter neighbor from hell". But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness.

Not my type of book and I loved it!
Revisado: 12-11-15
Any additional comments?
My mind tends to wander when a book doesn't have a lot of car crashes or shootings so this was a total surprise. At first I was a bit turned off by the anger and hostility in Ove's attitude but then his life unfolded and I was hooked.
An average man (albeit a bit cranky) living a somewhat average and honorable life. Written with an understanding and humor that makes you nod your head then laugh then tear up then laugh again.
Loved the cat and Parvaneh. Every introverted man needs a strong woman to make his life colorful.

"You’ve seen it all before. A malicious online rumor costs a company millions. A political sideshow derails the national news cycle and destroys a candidate. Some product or celebrity zooms from total obscurity to viral sensation. What you don’t know is that someone is responsible for all this. Usually, someone like me. I’m a media manipulator. In a world where blogs control and distort the news, my job is to control blogs—as much as any one person can."

Wish this were required reading in high school
Revisado: 07-29-14
Any additional comments?
Although this book is a bit self-agrandizing it makes some very important points. If kids in high school knew how much untrue garbage is spewed on the web there might be a lot less anxiety in their lives.
For the adults that get their news from the web, maybe we should take it less seriously and think twice before reaching conclusions.
I can't say this is a great book but the points it makes are very important in todays society.
