  • Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Early Suffragist, 2025
    Jun 27 2025
Years before Alice Paul was even born, the women's suffrage movement began with Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony, Lucretia Mott, and others at the first women's rights convention in the US in 1848. The efforts of these early suffragists laid the groundwork for Alice Paul and her peers, and their stories will give you a better understanding of the long struggle to recognize a women's right to vote. • Alice Paul, Part 1
    Jun 13 2025
Alice Paul was one of the most prominent activists of the 20th-century women's rights movement, who believed that moral authority always trumps the letter of the law; injustices must be called out and resisted as a matter of principle. By hook or by crook; with personal sacrifice, determination, and a talent for spectacle, she moved the needle of public opinion through acts of resistance. It’s like listening to a friend tell a story, except with researched details. I went to see the musical “Six” and before I went I listened to the History Chicks podcasts on Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn and the “other four wives”. It really filled in the background details in the musical (which was fantastic).

History with a sense of humor.

These ladies are the bomb!

I introduced myself to the History Chicks with their coverage of Francis Perkins. I'd never heard of her and I was hooked. I have now listened to every episode. I love this podcast because they've introduced me to great and/or infamous women, their lives, their struggles, their failures and their successes. The History Chicks humanize these ladies. Listening to a podcast is like having an intellectual conversation with great friends. And let's face it, given where we are in living History, we need some reminders that we've been down before, but we can still do great things with these women as our guides. Sometimes you'll hear about things we shouldn't aspire to, but avoid. But more often, I find inspiration in my History Chicks journeys. My 12 year old daughter and I (and even my rooster) dream of the day we can go on a field trip! Listen and learn.

Favorite podcast I've come across. Entertaining and educational. I'm hooked. Pleasant to listen too and just so much information without it feeling like a classroom lecture.

Brilliant

Her-story told well

I've been following this podcast for years and have never missed a single episode since my first listen, which was the original Queen Lili'oukalani episode. Nice to see things come full circle. The narrators do a great job of keeping you interested throughout the episode, and I cannot tell just how much I have learned from simply listening to the two talking and nerding out about history (especially about women in history whose stories don't receive enough attention or have been re-written by men) like I do.

Great and Engaging

I love this podcast. The individual episodes are long but do very complete coverage of the subject. I listen all the time.

Well researched history!

Witty, interesting stories of real women. I have listened with great interest to all of the stories of these interesting remarkable famous and infamous women throughout the ages. The biggest takeaway is the courage of these women. Truth is way, way, more interesting than fiction. I can’t wait to meet up with Susan and Beckett in Paris in less than a week

What can I say- I am addicted to the History Chicks
