I loved this book. The story is great, of course, but the way he tells it had me in stitches. Had I not been driving during most of my listening, I would have filled a notebook with some of the phrases and moments.

Meet Sarah. It started out like any other day for Sarah Lawler; getting the kids ready for school, making the pack lunches and juggling baby Ella’s feeds. There was no way of knowing that her husband, Paul, would leave for work that morning and simply not come home. Now the questions are piling up quicker than the unpaid bills and, unable to answer her children’s questions about where their Daddy is, Sarah is getting desperate. But it turns out she isn’t quite as alone as she thought she was.

Historia
On a leafy suburban street in Dublin, beautiful, poised Stella Greene lives with her successful husband, Matt. They're the perfect couple in every way, and Stella appears to have it all. Next door, at number 72, however, lives Rea Brady. Gruff, bad tempered and rarely seen besides the twitching of her net curtains, rumour has it she's lost it all...including her marbles, if you believe the neighbourhood gossip. But appearances can be deceiving, and when Stella and Rea's worlds collide they realise they have much in common.

Emotion and humour beautifully blended. Second time listening to this one, this time with my family. We started it as a nighttime routine but binge listened the last 10 chapters.

I loved everything about this audio book , so much so that I immediately started it again, sharing the performance this time with my wife and adult son. The younger kids even enjoy the odd chapter.
The use of language added a smile or tear to every moment. Brilliantly brought to life by the readers and what an original story!

Historia
The Overstory unfolds in concentric rings of interlocking fable that range from antebellum New York to the late 20th-century Timber Wars of the Pacific Northwest and beyond. An air force loadmaster in the Vietnam War is shot out of the sky, then saved by falling into a banyan. An artist inherits 100 years of photographic portraits, all of the same doomed American chestnut. A hard-partying undergraduate in the late 1980s electrocutes herself, dies, and is sent back into life by creatures of air and light.

Everyone who cares should read or listen to this
Revisado: 06-05-20
It sounded suspiciously like a story about trees but it's much more than that.
Brilliantly imaginative, a diverse and oddly credible cast of characters.
I nearly needed a notebook - not ideal when most of my listening is while driving!
I went directly from this to " The Hidden life of trees" and can now confirm the authenticity of the science that underlies this epic tale.
The characters are wonderfully portrayed by the narrater who gives them background and attitude.

So good I listened twice
Revisado: 06-05-20
I absolutely loved this story. After I finished it I told my wife and son about it and we made it our box set for the last couple of weeks.
It starts with simple life lessons, like an abridged self-help book - obvious, though thought provoking anecdotes. But then, half-way through, you notice it has also become a genuinely touching story.
Thank you Susan Trott for the wisdom and the story and thanks to the production team for bringing it to life.

Historia
In Music as a Mirror of History, Great Courses favorite Professor Greenberg of San Francisco Performances returns with a fascinating and provocative premise: Despite the abstractness and the universality of music - and our habit of listening to it divorced from any historical context - music is a mirror of the historical setting in which it was created. Music carries a rich spectrum of social, cultural, historical, and philosophical information, all grounded in the life and experience of the composer.
