While the content in this title is good, the fact that it is read by AI is pretty ridiculous. It’s distracting and just lazy on the part of the authors. You can’t be bothered to read your own title or spend a little to have a narrator read it? It gets irritating hearing the AI narrator keep saying Bee 2be sayaz, or 1 colon 1, or read section titles that don’t end in a period as if it’s a sentence that’s going to continue but doesn’t. Lots of examples of where the AI gets it wrong.

I read Purple Cow when it first came out more than 20 years ago and it was a good read back then. I saw this version was published in 2020 and said New Edition, which makes it sound like it’s updated to reflect today’s context. It’s not. The references are ancient, and not in that yeah but they’re classic and totally hold up kind of way. The references to Nokia, Moviephone, AOL, Jay Peterman and so many others are almost cringeworthy. Anyone younger than 45 won’t really be able to relate to this book. Its main message is stand out and don’t be boring, be remarkable and willing to take a risk, safe is death. Got it. But the way it’s brought to life does not at all land for today’s marketers and the challenges they face.

I’ve known of Peter’s work and content for a number of years now. He’s incredibly smart, data driven, detail oriented, and dedicated to finding and explaining the nuances behind the headlines. Despite the depth of geeky detail he can go into, you as a listener never get lost, because he’s so good at presenting the information very clearly. And the fact that he himself has experimented with many of the things he talks about, particularly things that at one time or another were dogmatically thought to be the only “right” way, makes this book more than just theoretical and shows that one’s thinking can and should evolve as experience and data don’t bear out what the dogma would have you believe. Highly recommend.

Normally, it’s ideal when the author narrates their own work. She’s an impeccable journalist, but not the best narrator. Monotone, unengaging, even puts the emphasis (when there is any) in the wrong place (and not in a charming kind of way). I found it hard to listen to.

There's nothing much to learn from this book. If you haven't read anything yet about taking care of a puppy, this will give you very cursory, basic info - the same kind you can find if you do a few Google searches for common puppy care topics. But what I really dislike, and did not notice until after I purchased this audio book, is the author names. They are obviously fake and were used to take advantage of SEO (search engine optimization) so that this title would appear prominently in search results. Zak George and Cesar Millan are the two most well known dog trainers so whomever created this book simply transposed their last names in order to take advantage of the SEO value of those names. It's extremely misleading and disingenuous. Stay away.
