Publisher's summary

From the New York Times bestselling author, K. Bromberg, comes a new standalone in her Everyday Heroes world that proves true love will always stand the test of time.

“I hate you. I never want to see you again.”

Grant Malone is not the reason I moved back to Sunnyville—at least that’s what I tell myself. Yet, those parting words I said to him back in third grade, ring in my ears every time a townsperson brings up one of the Malone boys. I thought time had healed my wounds. I was wrong. Nothing could have prepared me for how I felt when I finally saw him again.

Twenty years does a lot to turn a boy into a man. One who hits all my buttons—sexy, funny, attractive, and a police officer. But Grant is off limits because he knows too much about my past.

But I’m drawn to him. That damn uniform of his doesn’t hurt either. It’ll be my downfall. I know it.

What’s one night of sex going to hurt . . . right?

*

I’ve always loved Emmy Reeves.

That’s why I’m shocked to see her all these years later. The shy girl I once knew is all grown up.

Adventurous and full of life, she owns my heart now, just as much as she did back then. Convincing her of that is a whole different story.

I’ll give her the one night she asks for—like that’s a hardship—but when it comes to letting her walk away after, she has another thing coming. There’s no way in hell I’m letting her go this time without a fight.

Fall in love with the Malone brothers and the small town of Sunnyville. Each book in the Everyday Heroes series is a complete standalone, but might be better enjoyed listening to them as a series.

Cuffed (Grant and Emerson)
Combust (Grady and Dylan)
Cockpit (Graham and Sidney
Control (Desi and Reznor). A novella.

Not for the weak of heart

Grant and Emmy have a history that expands twenty years.
Except, years ago Grant broke a pinky promise with Emmy.
Emerson's father was molesting his daughter and much worse.
Do not read this book if you can't handle this.
Years later, Grant is "Officer Sexy", dubbed by the local women. With good reason.
He's ridiculously handsome. And kind.
During one of his calls, he comes upon a little girl who is going through similar problems. Only her father likes to hit her and his wife.
Emmy runs a sky diving school.
While trying to get a loan, the bank officer, who is lower than low.
He'll guarantee a loan... if Emmy has sex with him.
When she refuses, he informs her that the school has been sold.
All in all, through all the darkness, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
I cried for Emmy as an eight year old. And I cried for the little girl who's father beat her.
And I laughed as Grant's brothers, Grady and Grayson, invade his house regularly.
Brothers will be brothers and all that.... they, along with his parents are a force to be reckoned with.
Enjoy Cuffed.
The ending will make you really smile!
Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell put in wonderful readings, as usual.

Sparkle

What a gem this book is! There are so many facets to this well written book. The story has so many emotions in it. The main theme I took away from the story was "Define or Fuel", with tragedy choosing to fuel the character, not define it. The topic of child molestation is difficult to hear about, but the author wrote this story in such a beautiful and gripping way. I loved how K.Bromberg wrote such truism into this book like trust is a hard thing to earn back, love hard in the present and not need to know the details of the past, heads up, wings out. Another aspect I found moving in this book was how the choice to do right, brought focus to what needs changed. Both narrators delivered so much with their performance, it was perfect. I received a review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review. I will definitely listen to more books by this author and both narrators, as each one is so talented. I can't wait to listen to the second book in this series! This is a standalone listen and does not end in a cliffhanger.

Childhood friendship, Adult reunion

I loved this story of Grant and Emerson knowing each other as 8 year olds and reuniting as adults. This has the story of childhood abuse and the effect it has had on Grant and Emerson when she moved away. Grant is now a policeman with a "hero" complex and wants to save everyone. Emmy is a gypsy who never wants to stay in one place or let anyone close to her. I loved the scene when Emmy is speeding and gets pulled over. Grant takes over for the original policeman and calls Emmy's bluff on her reason for speeding and takes her to CVS with lights going. I laughed out loud! There are serious, heart-wrenching moments. Kristy Bromberg has written a great book for the beginning of a new series. I can only hope the other books follow Grant's brothers. I loved the narration of Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell, too!

fabulous new series

Loved it! Had to finish in one day! K. Bromberg is a fabulous writer and touchs some of the most hard to hear subjects but, she does this with such grace and kindness. The narrators were spot on and really brought the story to life. Can't wait for more. Well worth the Credit and/or money.

A vivid performance

When you begin this book, you think you are getting a hot cop romance. I mean I dated a police officer and it was hot, so I was here for it. Let me tell you, you get a lot more with this story. It is not solely a story about a boy who loves a girl from the time they were kids. Grant has always loved Emmy but she left as a child under tragic circumstances. This in turn has affected them both so much as adults, but as we all know our child traumas often has far reaching consequences.

Theirs is a bit of a messy love story, where they zig and zag and crash into each other. Sometimes the sparks fly and sometimes tears fall. I can speak from personal experience that what Emmy survived stays with you always, impacting your life in small and big ways long into the future. K. Bromberg portrayed that trauma with both great sensitivity and accuracy. I also appreciated the care she gave to how those events affected BOTH characters. Grant did not escape unscathed either and it drives his actions almost as much as it does Emmy. K. Bromberg will pull at your heartstrings with this one. It is sweet, sad, and hot at times too. The last little bit really pulls at your heartstrings but it definitely won't leave you in a readers funk afterwards.

I listened to this title and Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell deliver an emotional performance with great respect to the story and subject matter. Joe gives a strong performance to his character (and as Emmy as well) when they were children. This is not growly dominant Joe, but more of a sweet and kind Joe. Both their performances brought depth and life to 2 very complex characters. I thoroughly enjoyed the listen.

The best love story ever!!!

This story was so well written I found myself in tears many times. It was so real. The author wrote this as if she had experienced it herself. The balance between the story from the past and the present was written very well. This author should consider screen plays.
