About this listen

Graduate student Katelyn Gunn is headed for her first day of assistant teaching when she is almost hit by a car. The nervous and inexperienced Kate is shocked to realize that it isn’t the near-death experience that has her heart racing, but the sinfully sexy man behind the wheel. Adam Kinkade is ultra-wealthy, devastatingly handsome, and the most powerful distribution mogul in Chicago - he is also the first man who ignites emotions inside of her other than fear. Adam is a man used to getting what he wants. And he wants Katelyn - naked and often. Willing to stop at nothing to possess her, he relentlessly peruses Kate only to discover that it is she who possesses him - completely.

Kate quickly realizes that Adam has secrets of his own, secrets dark enough to break the walls she keeps so firmly in place. Passion turns to possession, and Adam’s controlling nature and seductive hands sparks a desire so strong, it destroys her own demons. But when desire turns to addiction, Kate fears that it will rage too hot, and shatter her sanity.

Editorial reviews

When graduate student Katelyn Gunn distractedly walks in front of the wealthy and powerful business magnate Adam Kinkade's car, it changes her life - though the car didn't hit Kate, Adam's sheer animal magnetism struck her with full force. Break Me Slowly's virginal Katelyn comes to life in a compelling performance from Jennifer Stark, who neatly captures the beautiful sociology student's heady mix of anxiety and all-consuming desire. Eventually, their steamy romance spirals out of control, riveting listeners as they discover where this deliciously dangerous liaison leads Adam and Katelyn.

A mix of FSOG and the Crossfire Series!

We get a mix of FSOG and the Crossfire Series... lots of intense sex, a light bondage/dominance, history of abuse, trust issues and that instant love connection. It wasn't the most original story and the main character is another 23 years old virgin who fell in instant lust with another super-controlling and uber-sexy billionaire. Of course, he wants to marry her from the instant she almost got run over by his car. There is real potential, I did like the story, even though its a story that's been told over & over. Katelyn & Adam both had been physically abused as children. Katelyn wore her scars all over her neck and face, but Adam wore his on his heart. The moment he layed eyes on Katelyn, he fell in love with her. He felt the overwhelming need to protect her when she was clearly capable of taking care of herself. Kate has deep issues from her past and struggles with closeness. Any touching is a trigger that causes panic attacks for her. Adam likes control and is a very determined man, but that's basically all we know, apart from the fact that he was abused and he loved Kate. The passion was intense and filled with raw sexual encounters & seduction. Not a bad storyline, but I felt very little connection to the characters. Also, I have to admit that the end of the book was a bit rushed. Obviously, you will need book 2 to continue with the rest of the story.

Really happy I found this book

This is a very good start to a series. The subject matter is a very heavy topic but such a good book.

Loved it

The book was good but it seemed like the short version of 50 Shades and Cross fire. I know someone else said the same thing but I couldn't believe how true they were. I wonder who wrote their book first. I probably would have given 5 stars if hadn't heard it before.

Just Another of the Same

Break Me Slowly is a solid story with the same polished billionaire/ naive woman theme as so many other books. Trouble is, there's nothing to make them stand out in the crowd of these books. The main characters (Adam and Katelyn) were similar to the myriad of other books' protagonists with damaged pasts that connect them. Still, it was an enjoyable read. I was just in the mood for spectacular.

Good

This story was good. Glad it was apart of the romance package. The narrator's male voice was slightly annoying but it didn't ruin the book.

A good start to a good series

Would you listen to Break Me Slowly again? Why?

I would definitely listen to this book again, and I may do just that when the third installment comes out. I enjoyed the story of Kate and Adam very much. They are people with problems, but they manage to find a way through these problems.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Break Me Slowly?

When they were reunited after the short break-up. It was a very touching scene. I love Kate for making it through that horrible childhood with her heart still intact.

What about Jennifer Stark’s performance did you like?

I like Jennifer Stark's voice for these books. She has a young, expressive voice which fits the main characters who are telling the story.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The improbable, but lovely story of Katelyn and Adam come to life.

So Good!!

Great story with smex, romance, dominance, passion and a bit of mystery with all the secrets between Adam and Kathryn.

Kathryn was a great character and so was Adam... I loved how mean he is...

The writing is so good... almost like reading a diary between Adam and Kate...

Can't wait to hear the next story...

Narration was great, Stark did a great job with the male voices...

Good Credit or Sale... even a buy because it wasn't that expensive.
