Understanding Our Innate Tribal Nature

  • Summary

  • In #episode45 of Alternative Experience we revisit our recent discussion with Jenny Powers PhD regarding the way our hunter gatherer ancestors lived their lives. Since the show I have had an epiphany which I believe is very important for us all to consider.

Watching the scenes across the UK last week really did show the darker side of our tribal nature, whether the scenes were sensationalised by the media as some have claimed (thats dark) or the riots really happened as they were portrayed (even darker) it will no doubt be used as an example of how our tribal nature means we are always destined for conflict but I want to tell you that is not true.

There is another way for us to lean into that very same tribalism for the benefit of everyone. Something that Jenny said during the Podcast, about how humans had existed for millions of years in a co-operative fashion really got me thinking and I went down a deep rabbit hole researching the ‘known’ behaviours of our ancestors and its given me hope that we are not as doomed as we may have been led to believe.

I hope you enjoy this episode, its part archaeological fact part thought exercise and I hope it gets you all thinking too.

Please like, comment and share this episode out to your networks, it really helps me to defeat the evil algorithm.
