The Mike Scully Show – Episode Recap – February 20th, 2025

BROUGHT TO YOU BY JAN PRO CLEANING SERVICES

This week's episode of The Mike Scully Show brought listeners another hard-hitting roundup of sports, debates, and laughs. Mike, along with co-hosts "The Hebrew Hammer" Eliot, "Trick" from South Alabama, and "Hillbilly" from West Virginia, dove deep into some hot topics in the sports world.

Segment 1: NFL Season Review & Off-Season Buzz

The show kicked off with a look back at the incredible growth of sports betting in the NFL. According to the American Gaming Association's latest report, sports betting on NFL games generated a record $13.71 billion in revenue in 2024, up significantly from $11.04 billion in 2023. Legal sportsbooks handled nearly $150 billion in bets—a staggering 22.2% increase from the previous year. Despite public favorites dominating the season, sportsbooks still managed a solid 9.3% hold rate. Q4 2024 was the most lucrative quarter in history, pulling in $3.66 billion.

The crew then tackled the big off-season stories, discussing the NFL’s salary cap increase, set to range between $277.5 and $281.5 million for 2025. Negotiations with the NFL Players Association will finalize the number soon.

Controversy swirled around Myles Garrett, who's asking for a trade, sparking heated debate on where he might land. Aaron Rodgers' future was also hotly debated, with speculation swirling around retirement or potential moves to the Steelers or Raiders. Matthew Stafford’s future was another discussion point—will he be traded or re-signed?

Tee Higgins’ contract situation kept the conversation lively, and then, of course, came the segment titled "NFL Stupidity," featuring Jameis Williams of the Lions and an inexplicable gaffe by Ravens kicker Justin Tucker, leaving everyone baffled and amused.

Segment 2: Hockey Surpasses NBA, College Basketball, and Baseball’s Back

The guys celebrated the NHL's huge win over the NBA during All-Star weekend. The 4 Nations Hockey Championship matchup—USA vs. Canada in Boston—garnered more viewers than any hockey game since the 2014 Stanley Cup, overshadowing the NBA’s lackluster All-Star event. The intense game featured three fights within just nine seconds, notably involving the Tkachuck brothers, bringing old-school hockey excitement back.

The show then shifted to college basketball, highlighting the SEC's dominance with nine men's teams and seven women's teams in the top 25. There were shoutouts to Auburn, Florida, Duke, and Houston, with an eyebrow-raising question: "Where has Kansas gone?" after they got demolished by BYU by over 30 points.

Mike humorously lamented a mistake from his alma mater, Illinois, which botched Terrence Shannon Jr.'s banner unveiling by hanging it upside down. The Illini quickly turned the gaffe into goodwill, selling humorous T-shirts and donating proceeds to the Boys & Girls Club.

In women's hoops, the guys discussed UConn’s stunning upset over South Carolina, breaking their 71-game home winning streak.

As pitchers and catchers reported for MLB Spring Training, the crew discussed the massive economic impact on Southwest Florida and Arizona, excitedly anticipating the return of baseball with the Grapefruit and Cactus leagues.

Segment 3: Chronicles, News, and Gripes

In the lighter final segment, fans enjoyed "The Hebrew Hammer Chronicles," featuring Eliot’s unique takes, while "Hillbilly News Network" brought laughs with offbeat stories. "What Sands my Paper" closed things out with humorous rants, before Mike wrapped up another memorable episode.

Stay tuned next week for more insights, entertainment, and strong opinions—only on The Mike Scully Show.

The Mike Scully Show Recap February 13th Edition

This week on The Mike Scully Show, Mike, Sean "The Hillbilly" from West Virginia, and Eliot "The Hebrew Hammer" held it down while Trick from South Alabama was sidelined with an illness. We are sending our best to Trick, he took the day off like a star quarterback resting before the playoffs. Meanwhile, Eliot showed up under the weather and took one for the team, grinding through like an ironman athlete who refuses to sit out. Respect.

Super Bowl LIX Recap: Georgia's Defense Crushes Mahomes

Super Bowl LIX is in the books, and it was a defensive masterclass by the Eagles, who dominated the line of scrimmage and made Patrick Mahomes look human. With their relentless four-man pass rush loaded with former University of Georgia standouts the Eagles shut down the Chiefs offense. Jalen Hurts proved why he deserved the MVP trophy, making timely throws and using his legs when necessary. While many expected Saquon Barkley to be a major factor, the Eagles didn't need him to take over the game.

Meanwhile, Nevada sportsbooks cleaned up, raking in a record $22.1 million in net winnings, shattering the previous record set during the Seahawks beatdown of the Broncos. However, the $151.6 million wagered was the lowest handle for a Super Bowl since the COVID-era matchup between the Bucs and Chiefs.

NFL News: Coaching Moves, Rodgers Future, and Cam's Blunder

The Saints made a splash by poaching offensive coordinator Kellen Moore from the Eagles. With New Orleans looking to revamp their offensive attack, Moore play-calling could be a game-changer.

The Aaron Rodgers saga continues his time with the Jets appears to be over, but where will he land if he decides to play in 2025? Speculation is already swirling, with teams like the Raiders and Steelers rumored as potential destinations.

The halftime show always gets people talking, and this year was no different. Some loved it, some hated it either way, it had everyone debating.

Tom Brady flexed his GOAT status in retirement by rocking an $800,000 watch at the Super Bowl. Because, why not?

Meanwhile, Cam Newton found himself in hot water after calling his former teammates losers. The always-outspoken Steve Smith Sr. didn't hold back, firing back at Cam and calling him out for his words. The drama never stops in the NFL.

    College Basketball: Who's Number One?

With March Madness fast approaching, the battle for the No. 1 seed is heating up. Florida knocked off Auburn, shaking up the SEC standings, and Alabama vs. Auburn this weekend is set to be a must-watch showdown.

Kansas and UNC two powerhouse programs have been struggling. The question is: can they turn things around in time for the tournament? Meanwhile, the SEC could have as many as 11 teams dancing in March, which would be a historic feat.

The betting action is ramping up, and Duke & Duke Bets are all over the Alabama vs. Auburn matchup.

PGA Tour: Tiger's Loss and a Rising Star

The golf world is mourning the passing of Kutilda Woods, Tigers mother, a devastating loss for one of the sports all-time greats. In the wake of her passing, Tiger has withdrawn from the Genesis Invitational, which has been relocated from Riviera to Torrey Pines South Course in San Diego due to the destructive Los Angeles fires.

On the course, Thomas Detry claimed victory at the Waste Management Open. The Belgian golfer continues the legacy of Mike Small's golf program at the University of Illinois, producing another elite tour player.

Final Segment: The Hillbilly Network News & The Hammer Chronicles

Closing out the show, The Hillbilly Network News was in full effect, with Sean "The Hillbilly" from West Virginia dropping his signature down-home take on the week's biggest stories Take Me Home, Country Roads style. Meanwhile, The Hammer Chronicles kept things lively with Eliot's unfiltered takes. It sands our paper we missed Trick, but get well soon my brother!

As always, Mike signed off in style, wrapping up another action-packed episode of The Mike Scully Show. Tune in next week for more hot takes, insider analysis, and unfiltered sports talk!
