S4E9.5 - Paris is Burning (Part 1)

  • Summary

  • CONTENT WARNING: Discussions of homophobia, transphobia, racism, police violence, HIV/AIDS, medical torture (Tuskegee experiments), suicide, hate crimes, and violence. This is part 1 of a two part bonus episode. In this part we discuss some background information related to Paris is Burning, the environment is was created around and generally important information about queer history that some younger audiences may not be familiar with. This covers some of the origins of Ball culture in the 1960s, the events of the Stonewall riot, and how the HIV/AIDS epidemic devistated the queer community. Some of this may be common knowledge for our older queer and gay folks out there, but it is so important to know that so much of our history is not taught to us and is actively hidden from us. If any information is inaccurate, or if you feel there is missing context that needs to be given about any of the topics that we have discussed in this episode, please feel free to reach out to us on our socials. This is not a fun one, but we feel it is important. Part 2 will available on our Patreon soon and will cover the contents of the movie itself.
