Often, in a particularly cruel twist, he would release his ensnared victims just to chase them through the woods with a rifle, savoring the hunt and inflicting maximum psychological torment. Hansen's horrific legacy left at least 17 innocent victims buried beneath the cold Alaskan earth, their tragic fates sealed by his sick ambition.
