About this listen

The earth has been invaded by unfathomable terrors from another dimension and international governments are doing their best to pretend nothing is happening.

But you can’t keep an alien invasion hidden forever.

A Hollywood production company is filming in the city: A spy thriller blockbuster that will introduce the Venislarn monsters to the viewing public. It’s a dream come true for the marketing team.

Rod Campbell - former SAS soldier and now the first line of defence against the Venislarn horde - is less than keen. He’s meant to be on the movie set as an advisor but he’s already got his hands full.

Gods are demanding human sacrifices, renegade Venislarn are seeking asylum on earth and there’s a magical teapot that says the city is facing imminent destruction. It’s going to be a tough week and Rod might not live to see the end of it.

Just a chuckle a minute!

I thoroughly enjoy the series and how the characters have developed. I know I'll enjoy going through it a second time for those bits that I missed. Thanks for bringing Steve the Destroyer back!

Two thumbs up.

I can not wait for the next book. If you read the first two than pick this one up, it will not let you down.

Original and funny as hell!

Great writing team and perfect narration. I never laugh out loud until this series changed that. The wit oozes from the "Odd Jobs" series and this book continues that trend. It has the funniest sex scene I have ever read/heard!
Do yourself a favor and start from book one. YOLO!

Nearly as good as the first

Not as quirky and satirical as the first, mostly because laughing at Hollywood cliches is... well, cliché.
But quite very much enjoyable, nonetheless. even the time travel.

One quibble: ends in a plot hook. Does not really resolve all subplots. That's not playing fair. feels like forced ending.

Netflix

This would make a GREAT animated series like Archer. Gets funnier and more insane with every installment. Even better on 2nd read! Awesome authors and reader.

Comedic Horror at its best!!

The authors of You Only Live Once, Heide Goody and Iain Grant and narrator, Matthew Lloyd Davies, all shall be awarded 5 gold stars for their efforts at bringing us these characters and story.
Superbly rendered, a marvelously entertaining imaginative plot with characters up to the task at hand (saving the world, of course).. Comedic horror at its best. The cast of characters is well drawn. The writing is fine as frog's hair, or something. The book reached out its tentacles, no less,, grabbed my funny bone and wouldn't let go. "Comedic Horror"? Who'd a thunk?
I've just completed the 4th book in the series, Out Of Hours, and it is holding up just fine!
What a delight!

Love the authors but they struggled with this one

Third book. For some reason everyone became Nina which made Nina have to be the smart one. Scary.
The american accents was so bad it was kinda funny for a while. Then it got sad.
The narrator shouting every word in that other language is jolting. I've done my best to ignore it because the story line is so original.
It is a good series overall if you can overlook a few flaws.

Loved the whole series.

Definitely a better experience listening to the story than reading. The narrator does an excellent job with the vocabulary.
