About this listen

When soldier Caitlin McKae woke up in Atlanta after being wounded in battle, the Georgian doctor who treated her believed Caitlin's only secret was that she had been fighting for the Confederacy disguised as a man. In order to avoid arrest or worse, Caitlin hides her true identity and makes a new life for herself in Atlanta.

Trained as a teacher, she accepts a job as a governess to the daughter of Noah Becker, a German immigrant lawyer, who enlists with the Rebel army. Then in the spring of 1864, Sherman's troops edge closer to Atlanta. Though starvation rules, and Sherman rages, she will not run again. In a land shattered by strife and suffering, a Union veteran and a Rebel soldier test the limits of loyalty and discover the courage to survive. Will honor dictate that Caitlin and Noah follow the rules, or love demand that they break them?

Loved this Book on Audio!

This is the third book in the series Heroine Behind the Lines. I listened to the audiobook and loved it! I loved the narrator and how she portrayed each character She absolutely made them come to life for me.
I love strong heroines that’s not so whiny and can stand alone and do things for themselves but when love comes along they can handle that too.
We see some of the north and the south fighting and how it affected each side. The south being so devastated by lack of food and medical supplies makes things really hard. Caitlin and Ruby both had to endure lots of hard times. Both had to make decisions that were difficult but that didn’t make them quitters. Caitlin was a soldier and was very brave. One mistake and she could have been arrested.
The author didn’t shy away from subjects of reality during war times. If you like historical fiction this is one of the best books and especially good on audio if you like listening to your novels while doing other things.

Fascinating

Fascinating, undertold history in a well-written, interesting story. It held my attention and enlightened me as it entertained. I love the attention to detail in these important areas of history that the author makes come alive.

While very good, the narrator did not quite have the skill level for this manuscript, which took some of the depth out of it. She did not use a German accent for one of the main characters who was a German immigrant. Her Irish accent for another of the main characters did not have the voice inflection that makes it recognizable as Irish. Her children's voices need work. I was impressed with the vast number of voices she used, as was required, although a couple were a little silly. Her tone is pleasant, and she put much effort into her acting, which has just a little room for improvement. There were a couple peculiar instances where lines were repeated. Otherwise, great job!
