Acerca de esta escucha

This reimagined narrative of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice unfolds in an alternate world where Elizabeth Bennet, now Elizabeth Rose Tomlinson, is a wealthy heiress.

Orphaned and concealed by her neglectful family, Elizabeth's true identity and inheritance are squandered. Reconnecting with Fitzwilliam Darcy in adulthood, they navigate courtship amidst revelations of her heritage and his role as a trustee. Facing societal expectations and familial deceit, they confront manipulative family members and triumph over obstacles, ensuring justice and personal happiness. Their union sparks positive changes within their social circle, fostering growth, redemption, new relationships, and the birth of children, culminating in enduring bonds that prioritize integrity in Regency England society.

Very enjoyable. Darcy and Elizabeth resolve their misunderstandings early but they have to stand up to both families. Harry Frost does another outstanding narration.

Darcy and Elizabeth against the world

Excellent addition to the “Elizabeth is not a Bennet” trope. The book has mild angst and D&E get together rather quickly. The book has one of the worst portrayals of the Bennet parents, bad enough that one wonders how they managed to raise any children with morals. I like most of Ms Anne’s books and generally read them on a fan site. I was happy to find this audiobook of one of my favorites narrated by Mr Frost who always provides a stellar performance. Highly recommend.

From my written review of the book: (audiobook review below)
I had the privilege to be a Bata reader for this story, and I enjoyed it then, but the final product is even better. This is a story where Elizabeth grows up not knowing her real history of her parents. Mr & Mrs Bennet are clearly selfish and really never learn to correct their behavior. I thought it was a cute twist on Canon when Darcy didn't insult Elizabeth at the assembly, but they had a conversation and what a journey it made for everyone. Elizabeth has trust truly broken in her family when the truth is revealed, and she goes through a large emotional upheaval. I'm glad that she had more people around her for support than she even thought. Jane and Mary got a reality check from overhearing their parents arguing. Thinking about that time period, I can easily imagine how this situation could happen, and I'm sure it did and worse for those not truly protected. I am thankful that we get to see our favorite couple come together and have a deep abiding trust with each other. I borrowed the ebook on KU and plan to buy the paperback for my collection.

NOW the really important part.... the audiobook (I love audiobooks way more than ebooks!!!)
Harry Frost is one of the TOP narrators in the JAFF world and he regularly without fail brings the story to an even higher level than just the written word. And he successfully did that with this story too. Thank you Harry for another wonderful story!!!

Very enjoyable story, with “Elizabeth is not a Bennet” theme. Excellent narration by Harry Frost.

Melissa Anne is a “must read” (or listen) for me. Her stories have an element that I absolutely love. She teams ODC together early in her story and then they pair up to overcome all obstacles and villains together.

In this story there is a truly reprehensible villain duo in the persons of Mr and Mrs Bennet. They have been left a very young Elizabeth in their care when her grandparents die. Elizabeth is a niece of Mr Bennet and although Elizabeth is a legitimate heiress the Bennets let the neighborhood believe she is the natural daughter of Mr Bennet’s older brother instead of his married sister. Her inheritance is contributing to the household but they have let the community believe that she is a penniless encumbrance.

When Darcy stays with Bingley at
Netherfield he begins to remember a little girl he knew in his youth. What happens when Darcy realizes Elizabeth’s true identity and realizes how badly she has been treated by her relationship? Can he teach her to trust again?

A wonderful listen narrated by the incomparable Harry Frost!

A Most Worthy Listen!

The story relies on the reader (and likely Austen fan) being able to believe this Mr Bennet to be sooooo evil. I could not. Nor could I see Jane and Mary just allowing Mrs Bennet to so demean their supposedly beloved ‘cousin Lizzy.’ The story is good, but too Easy. Once Elizabeth and Darcy realize who she really is, the story is pretty much over. Harry Frost is very good.

Good Story but a Bit Too Much

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It was well-developed. I appreciated listening to a book where Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy established a friendship from the beginning.

The narrator was outstanding!

Great Story

Favorite Pride & Prejudice variation for sure! I really enjoyed this book. The angst revolved around outside dangers they faced together vs. misunderstanding between themselves. Much prefer this type of P&P variation.

Excellent book!

This P&P variation was enjoyable in that Elizabeth and Darcy forge a path together early on and find ways to outmaneuver their foes as the story unfolds. The only canon couple are Darcy and Elizabeth, which I enjoyed. It was interesting seeing how the other characters are portrayed and how their lives unfold.

Some characters are not exactly redeemable, and that makes this variation even better.

So Enjoyable!

The book moves quickly through the story of a disparaging Aunt and Uncle Bennett and leaves you very satisfied at the ending. No drawn out angst. Very sweet love story. Great narrator as well. Nothing to not love.
