About this listen

Even the best plans come undone.

With their supplies reclaimed and food enough for the future, the group at Barry's cabin can do more than just scrape by. Between fruitful gardens, great friends, and sturdy fences—not to mention karaoke—life in the zompoc is better than ever.

Nothing is perfect, however. Across the country, safe zones are mysteriously going dark, and Oregon's summer weather has turned the forest into a tinderbox. As the unknown danger closes in and smoke begins to fill the sky, the survivors are all too aware of how quickly plans unravel, fences fall, and luck runs out.

I have read the entire series and I know it is going to end, but I really really don’t want it to.

I love her writing style, I was crying through the fire scenes with Sam and all the death and destruction but it was such an important part of real life.

She lulls you…

So I think, on the whole, SLF is one of the very best in this genre. It’s not just, as I’ve said before, a teenaged boy fever dream of heroic battle after battle. There’s actual character development and storytelling. This book spends 75% of the time lulling you into believing it’s a tale of life going on. Then suddenly, the last 25% is pain and destruction. Because you knew it had to be coming, the beginning, at times, felt immature. But if you believe you are safe and rebuilding a life, you might allow yourself the normalcy that seems silly within the context of tragedy.

Love SLF. This one left off cliffhanger-y. Be warned.

Series is awesome

Really enjoyed this entire series. already can't wait for the next one! Thank you for making a zombie book that didn't involve adding gruesome SA like most books do.

the best yet!

I am a fan of this series. I live two blocks from the fairgrounds so it is fun to envision my neighborhood crawling with zombies. I'd be a fan even if I didn't live at ground zero. Both series are well written and compelling. There are plenty of thrills and lots of drama on a solid story. I've read quite a few end of world series and these books are my favorites.

This book is based on our summer of fire a couple years back. The basis is true. When you throw in zombies it hardly makes it more scary. I relived the terror of that summer. Great writing brought it to life.
