About this listen
“There was a pattern emerging in my life that dictated that the second I got bored, I’d make a move. Luckily, I was never short of ideas.”
Without a Plan is the story of a smart and confident man whose brash and forward approach to all things—while not for everyone—quickly builds trust with guaranteed authenticity. Follow Jeremy Delk from a primary school in Kentucky, when his father passed away in a tragic accident, to the boardroom of his own investment firm filled with innovative companies, technologies, and unexploited market niches.
With each new step and business venture, Jeremy’s choices twist and turn through the unknown and the failure that comes with the territory of being human. Yet his boundless actions somehow turn out alright because each headfirst dive is aligned with his true self. Jeremy’s growth becomes yours in this tale of finding true happiness.

Story
Why do some always seem to win while others always seem to fail? And why do others win and then fail to maintain their spot at the top? Is it luck? Not to spoil the contents of this book, but no…it isn’t. To see consistent success in your own business, you're going to have to turn the magnifying glass on yourself. Because the fact is, nothing you do—no action you take, no strategic financial decision you make—matters if it doesn't bring you closer to the things you really want. So how do you ensure that you can ultimately reach (and fund) your priorities?

Over a stellar career, Roger Martin has advised the CEOs of some of the world's most successful companies. From the beginning, he noted that almost every executive he talked to had a "model"—a framework or way of thinking that guided their strategy and activities. But these models tended to become automatic, so much so that when one didn't work, the typical response was just to apply it again—with greater enthusiasm.

Story
In Made from Scratch, the late business maverick Kent Taylor tells the legendary story of Texas Roadhouse and in the process reveals its recipe for success: embracing unorthodox business practices. Because isn’t it a little unusual for a company to do almost no advertising? Is it wild to give away free peanuts and rolls and keep prices low, even as costs rise, or to keep the menu basically the same since it opened? Does it fly in the face of reason to prohibit coats and ties at headquarters and to have a CEO who dressed like he was part of the landscaping crew?

Story
When Mark Rampolla filled a notebook with potential start-up ideas, his wife asked him some tough questions. What about this idea is exciting, beyond the possibility of a profit? How will it fit into a life that makes you and your family happy? How will it change the world? Eventually Mark found his great idea: coconut water. He had seen the developing world use coconut water, but this valuable resource was being discarded in the US. While taking on the beverage industry was a big goal - high-hanging fruit - it was worth the risk.

Story
What does it mean to be an adult? In the 20th century, psychologists came up with five markers of adulthood: finish your education, get a job, leave home, marry, and have children. Since then, every generation has been held to those same markers. Yet so much has changed about the world and living in it since that sequence was formulated. All of those markers are choices, and they’re all valid, but any one person’s choices along those lines do not make them more or less an adult.

A most amazing, honest portrayal of Jeremy’s journey.
I love the open discussion at the end of each chapter with the author, in his own words.
I look forward to whatever is next!

Outstanding book!
Read the hard copy but so glad I listened to the audible! Loved the q and a at end of chapters gave enlightened perspective in the authors own voice and also learned more from the audible that wasn’t captured in the book. Recommend highly to just the normal reader that loves an autobiography, but also to the business savvy audience.

There are no “rich people”
To hear about Jeremy for the first time in 2024 is to set him apart as an “alien“ of absurd success. His unapologetic and even abrasive communication style might tempt you to put him in a box as a jerk “rich guy” that you don’t have anything in common with. If you maybe only read one article about him or heard him talk for a minute or two you could feel comfortable keeping him in that box. But not after reading this book. Not only did it shatter by perception of this guy I felt so different from and now can relate to significantly, it helped me see how often I put other people in boxes that I should instead continue to question, myself included. Jeremy is financially wealthy, but he is also spiritually, psychologically, and relationally well off as well. But he’s been to the other side of the spectrum in all of those areas at different parts of his life, and none of those waypoints, then, or now, define him. They don’t define me either, or you, or anyone.
There are no “rich people”… Just people. I hope I can take that into every interaction I have for the rest of my life. And this book has helped provide a reference point for me to do just that.
