Story
Follow New York Times best-selling author Mary Roach - but be careful not to trip - as she weaves through personal anecdotes and everyday musings riddled with her uncanny wit and amazingly analytical eye. These essays, which found a well-deserved home within the pages of Reader's Digest as the column "My Planet," detail the inner workings of hypochondriacs, hoarders, and compulsive cheapskates. (Did we mention neurotic interior designers and professional list makers?) For Roach, humor is hidden in the most unlikely places, which means that nothing is off limits.

Story
It's exhausting being Irish. The constant self-flagellation is enough to put anybody off their breakfast. Why are we so hard on ourselves? Is it the postcolonial overhang following centuries of oppression at the hands of a litany of foreign invaders? Or is it collective guilt for sending Westlife out into the wider world? In Surviving Ireland, acclaimed comedy writer Colm Tobin takes the listener by the hand for a satirical romp through modern Irish life.

Story
Magical Negro is an archive of black everydayness, a catalog of contemporary folk heroes, an ethnography of ancestral grief, and an inventory of figureheads, idioms, and customs. These American poems are both elegy and jive, joke and declaration, songs of congregation and self-conception. Focused primarily on depictions of black womanhood alongside personal narratives, the collection tackles interior and exterior politics - of both the body and society, of both the individual and the collective experience.

As someone who has always been fascinated by the origins of everyday phenomena, I found this audiobook informative and entertaining.

The audiobook also delves into the origins of everyday customs, like shaking hands when meeting people and saying "Hello" when answering the telephone.
The writing style is entertaining and accessible, making complex concepts easy to understand for listeners of all ages. Whether you're a curious child or an inquisitive adult, there's something in this audiobook for everyone.

This book will make you more curious there is no doubt about it. We listened to it with the entire family on a road trip out of town this weekend and it was so much better than everyone being glued to their phones etc. Why do horses wear shoes and cows don't??? how about that one.....pretty interesting fun fact to know.

So entertaining and fun!
An insightful tour of the oddball and fascinating facets of society, providing answers to questions I had wondered about since I was a kid and many more I had never considered. I was intrigued to learn about the history of birthday candles, the reason for the 24 hours in a day, and the origin of the doughnut hole. Beyond trivial details, the book explores the cultural meaning of shaking hands and the practical reasons behind certain situations, such as why horses wear shoes while cows don't.
This book stands out for its unique way of fusing pop culture, science, and history into an enormously entertaining and educational novel. It serves as evidence that learning is a continuous process that piques interest and motivates more inquiries. Not only has the information about the history of commonplace customs and items broadened my understanding, but it has also provided me with a ton of interesting anecdotes to share with others. The book was entertaining and delightful and I highly reco!!

Almost all good
I could have done without the chapter on boogers at the end, because I thought it was gross. The guy also does some weird accents. He’s not very good at accents, so it sounds like he’s making fun of them or something. This has a lot of very interesting information, though, and I think that kids especially would enjoy it.
