About this listen

The first book in 25 years from “one of our great comic minds” (The Washington Post) features Seinfeld’s best work across five decades in comedy.

Since his first performance at the legendary New York nightclub “Catch a Rising Star” as a 21-year-old college student in fall of 1975, Jerry Seinfeld has written his own material and saved everything. “Whenever I came up with a funny bit, whether it happened on a stage, in a conversation, or working it out on my preferred canvas, the big yellow legal pad, I kept it in one of those old school accordion folders,” Seinfeld writes. “So I have everything I thought was worth saving from 45 years of hacking away at this for all I was worth.”

For this book, Jerry Seinfeld has selected his favorite material, organized decade by decade. In this “trove of laugh-out-loud one-liners” (Associated Press), you will witness the evolution of one of the great comedians of our time and gain new insights into the thrilling but unforgiving art of writing stand-up comedy.

Critic reviews

"Gold, Jerry! This audiobook is pure gold! In that one-of-a-kind unforgettable voice, Seinfeld explores 45 years of comedy bits, sorted by decade. Each section begins with a jazzy interlude and a brief introduction narrated by Fiona Hardingham. In what is hours of pure entertainment, Seinfeld's timing is, of course, perfect, and the familiar way that he narrates creates a unique level of intimacy. Listeners will feel like they're in the front row of a show as they imagine Seinfeld's quirky facial expressions and wild hand gestures. Whether they consume this treasure a little at a time or binge-listen, the entire audiobook is one Seinfeld fans won't want to miss." (Winner of an AudioFile Earphones Award, AudioFile Magazine)

A career’s worth of jokes
Everyone who knows me knows I’m as big of a Seinfeld-head as there is. I’ve seen every episode more than 20 times each, easily, so anything involving Jerry Seinfeld I’m checking out 100 percent of the time. In Is This Anything? Seinfeld runs through a collection of 40 years’ worth of jokes going all the way back to the days before anyone knew what he had in store for comedy fans and pretty much anyone with a television in the 1990s. Is This Anything? is a really special performance because you get to experience one of the most illustrious careers in the history of comedy and television by listening to the man himself voice the jokes that started it all. —Aaron S., Audible Editor

Its not about Jerry, it is Jerry

It’s great! It’s Jerry reading his material. If you think you’ll like it, you will. His reading gets more like his standup voice as the book moves along. It’s especially good for people who write jokes.

Jerry delivers

I was so happy to have this book to listen to as I was in the ER for 15 hours and it was great to pass the time laughing away. It may have seemed strange to the nurses passing by but they were ignoring me as it was. So great book, so funny. Still got it man! Thanks

I did like it. I just had different expectations

Which is probably my fault. I thought it was more like a biography. But it’s not. I should have read about the book before I bought and listened to it.
But for what it is, it’s really good. In terms of what I expected it to be, once I got over the fact that it wasn’t what I thought it would be, it was really enjoyable. And... in someway it ended up being a bit like a biography.

This I will listen to this over and over

Always liked comedy & Seinfeld. Progress over his career is evident. Saw his interview with Jimmy Fallon where he explained he used the early material as it was, not doing anything to improve it. Our comic tastes have improved. The journey is worth understanding, as many of us are still trying to get laughs.

Get this if you are a fan

I’ve liked Seinfeld since I was a college student and I used to work as a security patrol of the Union building. I would always work on Thursday nights so I could take my break during the Seinfeld show and watch it in the big TV at the recreation room.

Hilarious material!

Love it! Except...

Jerry is my favorite comedian and I love this material. I have the Kindle version also and it's easy to “hear” Jerry delivering the material in my head. I got the audible version to actually hear it. He does a good job considering he's in a studio without an audience. But the lady announcing the titles is not good. Why the accent, which makes her hard to understand? If anything, she should have had a New York accent for continuity. It's the only annoying thing.

A great collection of shorts

I love the work of Jerry Seinfeld. He is able to make you laugh, even with only a couple of sentences. That is what makes this collection of shorts so great. You can just listen for a few minutes, have a laugh and go on with your day.

Great Jokes

I love Seinfeld, and the material and delivery are great, but don't listen to this alone. it's hard to laugh when you're by yourself, even when you think it's pretty hilarious. I know laugh tracks are awful, but what about recording a live performance? Maybe this is best enjoyed at a party.

Just like being at a show or across the table from Jerry

My husband and I listened to this in the car. Good thing I wasn’t driving because I was laughing so hard I cried!
